You know, with more TEENS having severe accidents that cost other peoples lives, maybe European countries have it right!

Over there, you're allowed to drink at 18, but, you can't drive 'til you 21.

At any rate, 16 is TOO young to be drivin'!

Wrong forum, Brainlock. Take your political garbage elsewhere. This is about a man who lost his life. Show some respect.

"Drove into a ditch..." and "over corrected..." - obviously, speeding and NOT watching the road. Now, one is dead and I assume another injured to some degree AND a family mourning the loss of a loved one. I can't help wonder what was going through the mind of the 48 year old passenger as the 16 year old was driving recklessly. My heart goes out to the family and somewhat to this youngster who now has to visualize this horror for the rest of his life - very sad for all involved.

the teen driver is guilty of reckless homicide or involuntary manslaughter and failure to control even though it was an accident with no speed involved.

And you're guilty of being the lazy, welfare-reliant slob with nothing better to do than spread your idiocy to the masses...

If these gentlemen were on MOTOR SCOOTERS it's possible they were on a backroad which would or could be a narrow road, It's possible that the writer of this article by saying the driver went into a ditch then overcorrected could mean there was no berm and the tires dropped off the pavement. It's possible that the driver of the car was moving to the right to give them more room and dropped. It's possible that this young man was a student driver. My point is, there is very little information in this article so to assume that this young man was speeding, too young, driving recklessly, etc. is a little premature.

My condolences to this gentleman's family.

Don_T Judge Yet,

I am the oldest daughter of the man that was killed and I agree with your post. I appreciate the fact that you didn't bash the young teen that was driving the vehicle that killed my father. I couldn't even imagine how that boy feels. Yes, my family is having a really hard time dealing with our loss of the most wonderful man that has touched many lives. Our family unnderstand that accidents do happen and really feel for the boy that has to live with this for the rest of his life. It was a complete accident and bashing a 16 year old boy isn't going to bring my dad back.

This is sound judgement. Try driving in southern Ohio on some of the secondary roads and you can find this first hand to be true.

To the family of the gentleman killed, I offer my condolences and will keep you in my prayers. The loss of a loved one is a shock, no matter what the cause. In time, your memories will provide more comfort. My father passed in December and I still struggle.

I applaud your forgiving attitude toward the teen driver. The first year of driving is dangerous as you learn to control a vehicle, no matter what your age is when you learn to drive. There, but for the grace of God, go I...I got my license when I was 16 and I made mistakes, just like every new driver.

It's possible they were on US 50, a transcontinental highway, as stated in the article.

As someone who grew up on motorcycles, I can say that I see just as many idiot bike riders as I see drivers who dont see them. In the past week, I have:
1. been passed while doing 65-70 by a bike going so fast that I didnt have enough time to see or hear him before he blew by me on the right
2. watched another rice-burner run up the gaps between cars during stop and go traffic
3. been cut-in-front-of by 2 hog riders too lazy to use a turn signal on a divded highway
4. watched another chopper style bike NOT STOP while turning west onto 36/37 from north old state.

So before you blame all the drivers, let's not forget the idiots who help make it unsafe for the rest of us.

But we still don't know the condition of the road where the accident occured. Just because it's a "transcontinental highway" doesn't necessarily mean it's in good repair. Rt 23 runs from Michigan to Florida. I know first hand in Virginia it's a four lane highway with, in places, very narrow lanes, NO berms, potholes, dips in the road and at best a speed limit of 40-45 mph. So to assume because it's a transcontinental highway that the road is good highway is just guessing and a bad assumption. We don't know what happened.

The road that the accident occured on was just 2 lanes and from the looks of the picture that we have seen, there is just a little stone on both sides of the road. The boy was traveling aprox. 50 mph and the car went into the stone and not real clear yet if it started into the ditch but as and inexperienced driver would do he turned the wheel to much to try to get back on the road and my understanding is that the car was airborne and cliped the first scooter where that man is in the hospital with a hole in his chest cavity, cracked ribs and punctured lungs. It then hit my father which we were told he died instantly then my dads scooter and the car both caught fire and there is nothing left of the car (not sure about the scooter). The accident is still under investigation.
It's make me more angry to see that people are saying such bad things about the boy since he is only 16. I was only 16 when i started driving and i have seen where experienced driver do stupid things when they drive. So just to blame things on a boy that is 16 do some investigation on older people that cause accidents with fatalities. My father died doing something that he love to do (riding his scooter). Even though my family and I are having a really hard time dealing with this we are also concerned with the young boy and what it has done to him.

"Daughter" - Thank you for the additional details on your father's accident. I know it must be difficult for you to relay this information. To hold no blame against this young man shows the kind of family your father raised. God bless you.

My heartfelt condolences for your familyand. My prayers for the others (your father's fellow riders and this young man) involved in this tragic accident.

What a shame. A classic example of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I have been riding motorcycles all of my life and rarely are there any second chances at life (as you have known it) when you are involved in an accident. This was obviously a passion for your Dad and hopefully he didn't suffer.
I have also known quite a few people that have been in accidents (some have died)when their vehicle went off the berm and they overcorrected and shot across the oncoming lane to create an accident or rollover. this is a tough situation for a 16 year old driver and a more experienced driver might have dealt with it differently. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. There is some consolation in knowing that at least he was doing something that he loved.

I know the road where this man was killed. It's a state maintained road. Very even paving with normal size lanes. No narrowing. It does not have a paved shoulder - just a few inches of paving then a slight drop onto small rocks and/or grass. It was an awful accident due to inexperienced driving. I know one of the responders to the scene and it was horrific. This boy will have to see that everytime he closes his eyes, and that's just awful.
I also know this boy and his family. He has two brothers and two sisters. These kids have all turned out to be very good kids despite the parenting and reputation of their father (the passenger). He's a loser, and everyone who knew them was afraid the kids would turn out the same, but they haven't. Two of them have scholarships to college. One just graduated high school and was a football standout. Amazing!!
From FaceBook, I've learned that this boy is devastated and distraught. Coping with something like this isn't something I would wish on my worst enemies. The dad, however, is on there talking about his possible broken foot - but that's just the way he is.
The daughter that posted on here and didn't judge and is so forgiving, you must have God in your life because most people couldn't get past this with such calmness. I pray for you and your family in your time of mourning. From FaceBook, there are a lot of prayers and sympathy going out to your family from the folks down here in Southern Illinois.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Aquarius

You're very feisty and energetic and there's a lot you want to achieve. You'll get rather impatient if anyone stands in your way. A close emotional relationship will either be sexy and exciting beyond belief, or bad-tempered and tetchy. If you're in a grumpy mood, try to work out why - and what would improve matters. One thing that's bound to help is physical exercise, because it will burn off any excess nervous energy.
