I hear that Dr. Pendrak is the only general surgeon left in town. Don't know if it's true or not, but I do know that my docs office wanted to refer me to Roswell because the surgeon that they usually referred to was leaving. I pretty much forced them to refer me to Pendrak.

Anyone have any ideas why a docs office would prefer to refer out of town rather than use Pendrak? I'm scheduled for (another) surgery in August with him and am pretty curious. His office seems very well run and Dr. Pendrak seems quite intelligent and competent. I didn't get any bad vibes.

Don't know why the referral, but Dr Athigamon is returning around the middle of July. We've had a couple of surgeons "local tenum" and I think one is still here but for how long I don't know.
I like Pendrak. He's a good egg and the fact he is a Hogans Heros fan is another plus for me.

Research him. Call the American Medical Association, The New Mexico Medical Association and even the Better Business Bureau. You can also google his name.

Ask his office to provide his credentials so you can see where he went to undergrad, medical school, and internship. Did he receive any scholarships or awards in medical school or private practice? Find out whether he's had complaints and, if so, their resolution, in any states in the US

Why do you go to a primary care doc if you don't take her or his advice?

It's advice....only advice. You have options and doctor's aren't God and can't know everything!! So use your heart, mind and soul in making your own decision!! It's a good thing to double check your options!! Primary doctor's are great BTW!!! Also depends on what your Insurance covers, which doctor's can't always know.

This was not advice per se, it was a referral. They declined to disclose why they would not refer patients to Dr. Pendrak. Without a solid and verifiable reason for NOT going to Dr. Pendrak, I see no reason to travel to Roswell for treatment. I have done preliminary research and am quite satisfied that I will be in good hands, I am just curious as to others experiences and opinions.

BTW, my PCP is a central source for a complete medical record as well as NON-surgical care.

true, true...but I reckon he'd be drummed out of business if he were a hack. I've uncovered nothing to make me mis-trust him so I'm going to have him do the surgery.

I've had surgery done by Pendrak. My dad and one friend also have had surgeries by Pendrak. He's a very good and respectable doctor. What I like about Pendrak is that he is still human. You can actually walk into a local establishment and see him and he'll talk to you like you're a person. Not a client, like most doctors do to people. He gets an "A" from me in the doctor and People person categories.

I reckon you would need Dr. Pendraks permission more than mine, but if you are quite serious, give me your contact info. Heck, I'll be out cold so it's not like I'd need hair and makeup lol!

If this person is serious, they would have to have the dr agree to have it filmed as long as it was ok with you, due to HIPAA laws and you would have to sign papers to release information.

I'm glad some people have had good experiences with Dr Pendrak. My husband did NOT! He went in for a colonoscopy. When he showed up at CMC for his 8:30 appt. It turned out that the drs office scheduled 3 people at the same time. Ok that's not the drs fault we understand that. So my husband who has had 3 back surgeries & cant be sitting or laying in one position for very long, & has hypoglycemia (all of which the Dr was made aware of)had to wait another hr to 3hrs, this time variance making it impossible to leave & come back, all because he was the youngest scheduled for that day & supposedly it would be easier for him to be delayed!!! by the time he got in his sugar levels where beginning to get to him but was told the procedure would only be another 30 mins, so we had waited this long ok! Dr Pendrak shows up & cant even remember what he is to do on my husband or the reasons why?! HUH!? When we get that taken care of. The procedure took an hr. No biggie, except my husband is know in a lot of pain from being prone to long, from his back, here's a grown man crying like a baby & no one will give him a pain killer. He wasnt in for his back after all! To make matter's worse the dr, though given permission NEVER came out to even let me know how things where or that he had finished?? I had to ask if he was done! we got no results I had to call the office & Demand an appt to find out, they argued with me saying it wasn't necessary! We went to the appt hoping for an explanation or apology we got neither. at the appt. his people skills where severly lacking!! Im proud to say we remained polite & calm but We wont be going back.
