I took my kids to play at the playground by the rec. I could not believe that a guy (20-30s)walked around with a pit bull in a harness talking a cell phone as if he was some badass or something. When a child got close he would have to hold the dog on the harness to give more support if the dog tried to lunge. I asked him why would you bring a pit bull around small kids and especially to this place? He said are you serious? Then started saying something. I don't know what he said but I said yeah, it is effing ridiculous that you would bring a dog like that around a playground with small kids. If I had not been gathering my kids to go, I would have told him the dog is better off being shot since it is obviously aggressive and that you do not look like a badass, but like a wuss since you have to walk around a playground full of kids with a pit bull. There should be a law against bringing those dogs around.

You are talking to someone dumb as a sack of doorknobs.Once those dogs attack it's a done deal.Every week you read of someone mauled or killed by pit bulls.A bullet in the head is usually the only way to end an attack. Most homeowners policies will not insure you, if you have one on your property. How do they manage to keep them at their homes?

We own a pitbull and she is wonderful with our kids. We have other dogs too & have never had a problem. We own our home & have ins coverage with no problems. Dont hate the breed just because there are a few bad ones out there.

You are referring to your dogs. I am talking about the dog he had. If the dog was so good with kids and not mean then why did he have to grab the harness to make sure he had a grip on the dog if the dog tried to get to a child? I will never own a pit bull. They get a bad rep because they have the aggressiveness in their blood. Why does a pit bull need to go to a playground? Does it slide, swing, turn on the wheel swing, jump around like a human? No. There is no reason to take a pit bull or any dog in fact to a playground where kids are.

Many dogs can get aggressive due to protecting, however, the most are the pitbulls. I know the dogs I own are not aggressive like a pitbull. They do not have it in their blood to just attack for no reason and even if they did somewhat, it would take a lot to provoke them into attacking. Why is it that people do not walk around small dogs with harnesses to look like a badass? I can even use a large poodle as well as an example of not being walked around with a harness. However, like I was told a Great Pyrenees would be great to take out a pitbull. Here is a story:

Pyrenees are great dogs! To hell with the pitbull bread and the people who want to act like badasses with them!

Just cause someone owns a Pitt does not mean they are a badass.

Wow this comment sounds completely racist. I bet you judge by the color of a persons skin too. Pits do have bad reps, but you have to realize its not all pits. There's bad in every breed...just as there is bad in every race. People tend to pull their dogs leash up when other people are around if they think they're dog might jump (not attack). Some dogs get extremely excited around people and especially children. No one is gonna let their dog jump all over and lick a child that they don't know. I have a dog who is half pit and she is very loving. When people come around she gets hyper so I pull back on her leash. Next time instead of assuming its a bad dog and saying something prejudice...maybe if you don't like those dogs you should just mind your own business...get educated before you spread your hate.

You are the one that made it a point to specify that it was a pitbull. Had it been an aggressive chihuahua would you be so outraged? I've seen more aggressive chihuahua's than I have pits. Hell I've been bit by a few.

yes...chihuahuas have been the breed responsible for the most dog bites every year for a long time.....but when i chihuahua bites you its usually not going to kill you or seriously maim you.....but a pit bull can tear off flesh and arteries with one quick bite and you will have permanent scarring if you live though it....

How is it racist? I thought many different races owned pits. You have no idea if my husband is black or hispanic. You have no idea if my husband is white or korean. You have no idea. I am educated and I will tell others to not trust pit bulls. Yeah, I am sure that the pit was going to lick a child since he had to hold him on the harness and used his knee to keep the dog between the fence and his leg.

I understand that, but the point I'm trying to make is they aren't the only dogs that bite. Any bigger dog can tear flesh/arteries, and cause permanent scarring like you said. I've seen someone with permanent scars from where a chow almost ripped their eyelid completely off. My point is be outraged that it was an aggressive dog, not that it was a specific breed.

I hold my pit like that sometimes when she jumps at people. She doesn't jump at them to harm them, she's not aggressive at all. In fact she is mine and my 1 year olds dog.

It is not the breed it is the breeds owner. Wish people would understand this. I had a pit and he was the sweetest thing that is cause I raised him like that. I think people are more prejudice when it comes to this breed but you know what all other breeds are like this if they are not raised right. If this guys dog is not good around people yes I agree he shouldn't have taken it to the park. But don't hate on the breed hate on the breeds owner that doesn't raise the animal right. Pitbulls can be the sweetest most caring animals there is.

Your last sentence says a lot. Pitbulls CAN BE, not like smaller dogs that are 99% of the time are sweetest.
