I don't know Joel Arnwine, except by name, but if the entire county will be without fire protection because of one arrogant county employee then i say it is time to FIRE the arrogant employee.....

This is BS... Comissioners stop the BS and build the bypass road

Yes, he needs to go, call your Commissioner that represent your area and voice your concerns.

I have read the policy. There are a few things that I don't agree with but for the most part it is the same that it has always been. Right now he is still the boss. I think the change in title is due to no longer receiving outside funds for his job.

Stop the speculation. You wanna know what's really going on, talk to a county fire chief. If something isn't broke, don't fix it.

Also, it's not just the chiefs, there are also a bunch of members from most of the departments that will be leaving. This will have a huge impact on the county and its residents.

If you aren't one of them, then you are clueless about arnwine. Sounds like you don't have the first idea about giving part of yourself to help people that you have never met. Educate yourself to the situation or shut your pie hole.

With this proposal my husband will no longer be a volunteer because he will be in the wrong district. And my mother will loose almost all of her firefighters because of this. My mom is Queen Fire Chief and many of her people are only part time residence of Queen. When my mom took over in Queen it was the year there was some of the largest fires in Eddy county and Im going to tell you that without all of the volunteers Last Chance and all the other fires that year would have been worse. These people give their time and effort freely and their lives. The chiefs are not fighting this for no reason its because this proposal has no reason to it except putting someone in charge that doesn't need to be. Why not someone else if there has to be? Why not leave things like they are?

If the county, knowing they are going to lose the majority of their volunteer firefighters over the Arnwine thing, go ahead and side with Arnwine, will that make the county liable when someone loses their home because there are no trained volunteer firefighters within the county to handle the emergency? Does the county even care? I have personally witnessed Otis Volunteer Fire Department respond to a fire in my neighborhood and was impressed with their professionalism. It would be a shame to lose so many dedicated volunteers.

excellent point.... I think an attorney would be willing to take this case theory on a contingency fee arrangement
Perhaps it could be a class action

Pay up county

My question is why do so many think that Arnwine will be the County Fire Chief when he is the Emergency Manager? He is the director of the entire dept. He would not take 2 roles would he? I thought I seen somewhere that the County is looking to hire a County Fire Chief once this policy is agreed. They can't post the position until the policy is voted on or whatever. So there for Arnwine would not be over the Vol. Dept at all except through the new County Fire Chief. Isn't that was the Vol Fire Chiefs want anyways? For Arnwine NOT to be in total control of their day to day operation? I am confused.

The county FD's are funded with State Fire Funds. The GRT that the Businesses outside the city pay are split between the Fire Departments as extra funding that helps Eddy County have some of the best Volunteer Departments around. The outside funds I spoke of above where Homeland Security grants for Emergency Manager. Eddy County stopped getting the grant (this is the first fiscal year without). So the need to change the job title is warranted. Some parts of the policy are already a written policy that will be replaced with this updated version. Some of it is new policy. All of it should have been ran through the Fire Chiefs with enough time to review.

I can understand why the firefighters/chiefs want their atonomy (sic),& all that, but threatening to take the ball away if they don't get their way seems pretty irresponsible to the concept of Public Safety, which is why they are supposed to exist for in the first place...
