You can donate Noah's Ark $30 if you let Michael Bromka write you a limerick.

Or you can just do the right thing and donate them money and foster stray animals anyway, like I do.

You also have the options of writing limericks for free here. I will start. We can fight about whose limerick is best. Because that's what Topix is all about!

I will promise to donate five dollars to the Noah's Ark Foundation for every properly written limerick posted here, up to $250 out of my pocket, as long as they are not about trashing the shelter or trashing companion animals, and in some way are supportive of all of our efforts to help our companion animal friends.

You've got a month. Go for it.

In Carlsbad once was a fellow,
Who relentlessly ranted and bellowed,
His planks of outrage
Upon which he would stage,
Predictably trickled like Jello

A dog of three years in this town,
Made remembrances suddenly, down,

When lost on the street, gentle gendarmes did meet,
And brought to our shelter, down south.

He was known as an intake pup, years ago,
And Angela's memory noted so.

She saw him from old photos,
Of other lost puppies.

She talked to her staff, she showed them the photo

Of my Falcor, who is sleeping around here somewhere.

my Falcor, the dog I was waiting for.

a puppy sat lonely and cold
of him a dog catcher got hold
the scamp was scared and shaking
hoping for a chance to grow old

but what the dog didnt know
he would have the chance to grow
a young lad found him and said
thats the one i just know

There are many more dogs at the shelter
a roof over their head for stormy weather
needing real homes and pats on the head
maybe even a chew toy made from pigs ear

a dog catchers work is never done
they chase dogs through the noon day sun

The problem with strays is it started as one
and out of control the problem quickly spun

even when theyre caught the battles not won
til a family is found with which to have fun

and better companions there are none
needin a pet? to the shelter you should run

There once was a dog named Lou,
In trouble for eating a shoe,
Out on the street with the other mutts,
He paused, and licked his own nuts,
And said 'you'd do it if you could do it too!'

Okay, that's not quite technically a limerick, but I'd rather change my rules than rule you out!

Thanks so much puppy lover, that is just excellent!

Okay, here's one from me, about the inside view for the Noah's Ark Shelter staff:

It's difficult running a shelter,
With orphans all helter and skelter,
Without all your help,
Even humans would yelp,
And eventually fall into welter.

I had to look up "welter" for that one. It means confusion, turmoil. They can't do it alone, and it is so hard for these dedicated people that they only so often have to do it alone.

I'm talking about the killing. The killing these kind people do every week, when they bring in animals to be put down. When they run out of space, which happens regularly.

They take the cats and dogs out of their cages, and put them down via sodium pentobarbital injection, as kindly as they can.

Week after week after month after year.

Why is this still happening? Why are these good people who love animals, why are they still inundated with more and more unwanted pets, some of whom these nice folks have to kill every week of the year?

They do it on Tuesdays, last I heard. How would any of you like to have a gig where you were the gunner to have to shoot up some otherwise reasonably nice pets, every freaking Tuesday?

And then have to deal with sick jerks in the community BLAMING you for it?"

We will now return to our scheduled limerick contest.

Our pups Shadow Spooky and Gus
Always put up such a fuss
When wanting attention
And treats I must mention
Traits found in humans like us

There once was a lady named Frances
who took in a dog for her dances
she taught him the shottische,
Pretended he was Scottish
and made him wear kilts plus some pantses.

Contribution from a family member. Thanks!

They are sitting there, sad, while we write,
All our thoughts, both brilliant and trite,
In their dark little cages,
Lives nothing but pages
Of time, hoping always for light.

Sad stories of dogs dumped in yards,
Barking and bored, these good pards,
Why don't humans heed them?
Why go so far as to breed them?
They deserve something more, than to guard.

An old friend is failing and falling,
His legs are collapsing, he's crawling,
A sad choice is upon us,
He'll go with no fuss,
My trusting and loving old darling.

Yeah, I know; rhyme fail. I am not in that position with my dogs now. But if we all last another seven years or so, it'll come to that. As does all life..ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

to a young girl being sheltered is bad
something that leaves her quite sad
and its often due to an overprotective dad
but to a cold puppy
its actually quite lovely

a long time ago i found a dog who was ancient
old man was his name and he was complacent
this dog and me thought of each other as god sent
always by my side
perhaps even after he died.
