Interesting...The Sentinel had this story on Wednesday. Guess it takes the news a little while to get this far south, huh?

Appears to be convincing evidence that her dementia, or Alzheimer's, is pretty far advanced and she should not be permitted to operate an automobile from this point on.

The government needs to step in and do something about this. I think it should be a requirement that after a person reaches a certain age (let's say 65 so it is the same as retirement), that they be required to take yearly driving and cognitive exams. This country also needs to increase our public transportation system so when people cannot drive they have a viable alternative. I have grandparents that should not be on the road (one is blind, one has Alzheimer's) but guess what-they still drive because they are allowed to. We have begged and pleaded for them not to but since they live out of state and no public transportation system there is no alternative or way to enforce it.

This is one of the few times that I agree with allowing the government to interfere with our lives. People will complain about the speeders on interstates, but what about those to old to travel the speed limit? While traveling 81 for an hour everyday to get to work, I have noticed the danger more from older people who are driving to slow then the speeders. This is such a sad story and I Thank God for watching over her. I can only imagine how horrified she must have felt.

I can't wait until you reach 65. I will look forward to your post then. Seniors do not need to be tested every year anymore than young driver do, especially the girls.

ITS FUNNY THAT YOU'RE DEFENSIVE ABOUT SENIOR DRIVERS NOT BEING TESTED WHEN YOU ARE STEREOTYPING YOUNG WOMEN AT THE VERY SAME TIME...THERE ARE PLENTY OF PEOPLE WHO COULD USE A LESSON IN DRIVING, BOTH MEN, WOMEN, 16 THRU 75YRS OLD.
I, TOO, FEEL LIKE ELDERLY PEOPLE, 65 SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD AGE TO START, SHOULD BE TESTED ON A MORE FREQUENT BASIS, AS FAR AS DRIVING IS CONCERNED.

I wonder if John McCain would be allowed to drive? He has a bad temper and a roving eye. He sounds like a dangerous man.

That's enough of the stereotyping.

I don't recall seeing anything in that article that said she had either dementia OR Alzheimer's.

And there are a lot of 65 year young people out there that drive better than teenagers or young adults. I know I don't often see a 65 year old on a cell phone while driving....

Testing at 75 or 80, I could agree to. But not at 65 - that's too young.

65 is too young, AARP gives us a discount if we take the AARP test, now lets see where did I put that? People think I don't worry about the here after, everytime I go in the kitchen, I say, now what did I come in here after.

Shouldn't Big Brother give cognitive exams for all drivers who have cell phones, too? Remember, many of these drivers cannot drive properly, let alone multi-task while talking on the phone. If this were the law, more of us would be safer on the roads each day because we narrowly escaped being in an accident due to cell phone users. Are you open minded to this type of law?

Family members and doctors need to step up to the plate when they see loved ones who are having health issues. Does your grandparents' doc know they are still driving? Keep Big Brother out of this. We already have enough problems with them being involved in our lives.
