Maybe its a secret Vacation? Why should the town's taxpayers be enlightened, after all they just pay all the bills. What right do they have to know what is going on? The laugh is that if one of those taxpayers did anything wrong, it would be in every newspaper in the state, but since it involves those saints known as "first responders" mums the word!! Pathetic!!
It IS a vacation - it's PAID administrative leave.

If police officers from the town of Carlisle, Dracut, Tyngsboro, Lawrence, Lowell, Billerica, etc. continue to be investigated and placed on paid administrative leave for months then that tells me that all these towns are way over-staffed becaused while these cops are being investigated the town mangers and/or police supervisors tell us that we can patrol OK without their services. More proof that the majority of police officers are egotistical, dishonest, fraudulant and hide behind their corrupt "brothers" and corrupt unions. Makes ya sick!

Sadly, the Sgt. disciplined a Patrol Officer unfairly for a minor infraction. Patrol Officer felt unfairly treated by the Sgt. & Chief so he outed them to the Board of Selectmen for unprofessional conduct (infidelity) while on duty, and claimed Chief allowed same because he had participated in similar manner with another employee in the Dept. In short, Carlisle has 3 police supervisors and two of them probably could be doing a much better job. All Carlisle Officers are contract employees and the Town doesn't need to give them a new contract if they aren't performing at the highest levels that the community expects of its officers. carlisle is a small town with so many cliches & it may need to find new Police Leadership from outside the community depending on what the investigation reveals, and if discipline follows or not. It is illegal for the Town to make statements about a sensitve personnel investigation. The Board of Selectmen and Town Administrator should keep the matter confidential and only discuss it in Execution Session, and perhaps consider allowing the officers involved to retire to avoid potential job action law suits or just not give them a new contract when their contracts expire if the complaints against them warrant this. If they are in fact cleared of the matter, then a public statement is appropriate and warranted to keep public confidence in their police leadership team.

The public has every legal right to know what is going on . The simple fact they're trying to keep this "secret" , questions their credibility . They are public servants , after all .

Not at all. He's come onto my private property on two occasions. My kids don't hang downtown Ayer. Where I live there is road that has barely any traffick. Callahan is always bothering my kids on that road. No other ayer cop bothers my kids except for him.
There is no law or ordiance that says my kids can't play on our street. I see kids riding there bikes all the time yet they dont get stopped. Callahan does not have kids. Just cuz a kid likes to skateboard doesnt mean a cop should stop him, frisk him and his private area, and hassle him. My kids have never, ever been in trouble at school, by the law, etc.
I'm thinking of bringing this matter to the attention of the selectmen because I'm not the only parent whos complaining about Callahan and one other cop.
If callahan was looking out for the safety of my children and had a legit purpose to frisk my kids constantly, then he should call me.. the parent! Callahan is known as a bully in my town. He likes to mess with people younger and smaller then himself.
My husband was pulled over the other day for having a badge displayed on his car window. Callahan asked him for ID and he explained that he is a law enforcement officer and works for the judicial system. Callahan yelled at him and told him he isn't public service or law enforcement! Yet, he is classified as such by the judicial system. Who is callahan to question anybody? Does he know the details about everyone elses job description?
this guy is a bully and needs to be invesitgated like the carlisle police.
If you think skateboarders are punks, then that is ridiculous! My kids also love football, hockey and basketball.
Your kids are long-haired future drug addicts, and your husband is a liar!

My kids do nothing wrong. It is always someone elses fault. That cop does not deserve to protect the public because he picks on my kids. I'm just building a case of harrassment in the media because I dont want to work. Im sewing the cop and town for hurting my kids feelings. Working at Madison Sercurity is a cops job. You dont see my husband picking on anybodys kid at the industrial park. Bad cop. Not my kid. Never.

Perhaps if you were a Law School Graduate
you would understand the Town of Carlisle's
legal counsel advising them correctly to
keep the matter confidential, avoid public
comments, and prevent unnecessary costly legal
battles when wiser persons would certainly
quietly, discretely and legally handle the matter
appropriately when the investigation is complete
and the true, undisputable facts are known. Mass.
General laws normally give Non-Civil Service Police
& Fire Departments 3 year contracts. The Town for
any lawful reason does not have to give any person
a new contract if they are not satisfied and determine
that the employees behavior, actions, or work efforts
do not meet the communities needs or best interests.
If the Town makes a publc statement or fires an employee
they could be forced to deal with legal challenges.
As you know, lawsuits cost money to defend and are
certainly not in any Carlisle residents best interests.
At this time, all Carlisle residents should support
their Board of Selectmen, Acting Police Chief Lt. Leo Crowe,
and their Town Administration. The rest will sort itself
out in due time.

Sounds like you failed the police exam and could not get on your local police department. Are you a frustrated cop or something? Listen grab your Police and fire scanner and become a security gaurd somewhere.

Bearfield has had a busy week interviewing for the Boston Globe's Sunday edition and again for the pages of The Lowell Sun.

Larry's much too modest. He runs more than a little sandwich and coffee shop--he has the only liquor license in Carlisle. Naturally Larry wants everyone to shut-up and go to the Fern to buy his over-priced merchandise.

As for the town, Carlisle has all the quaint charm of a snake pit. A latter day Peyton Place Meets the Desperate Housewives.

The police don't run the town. The Selectmen do! Of course they gotta play the town's game. If you don't follow town rules and policy, you can bend over and kiss your butt goodbye. Look, a police officer badge doesn't give you the right to break the rules. It DOES NOT give you the right to hassle kids or 'easy targets'.

There's something called Karma. One day someone who is smarter then you... someone who is not afraid to stand up to you.... will stand up against bad police officers.

Police Officers are public servants. Yet they forget the main reason they are appointed is to serve the public... not threaten... hassle... abuse.... or annoy the public.

Either play by the rules or find another job.

Obviously your friend isn't working hard now, on a vacation that I paid for. Obviously he DID SOMETHING wrong if he's being "punished". Take away thier badges and treat them like thier not above the law.

hahaha good try. My husband is a special state police officer and is assigned to the judicial system. We co-own four stores and eight apartment buildings from Ayer, Carlisle and Westford. So we do work.
I wouldn't waste my time suing the police in Ayer. They have bad publicity already. I would end an officers career for messing with my kids, but that is where it would end.
My point is, the article is about Carlisle. I'm saying that the Ayer Board of Selectmen should do the same investigation here in Ayer.
Now Callahan, all I ask is that you stop messing with my kids, husband and other citizens of Ayer. I will file a petition against you if you ever approach my family again. Have the balls and approach me instead cuz I know you know who this is. LEAVE MY KIDS ALONE.
You have left my husband alone cuz I'm sure you researched his credentials and learned he is above you.
I like your style lady.
