Well, Sullivan is not the first to suffer this fate, Carlisle has lost some great officers to one simple fact; no civil service protection. Officers are human, they are making mistakes at all levels of area departments, the difference is in those towns they are taken aside, retrained, possibly demoted, and returned to service. None of that is possible without civil service protection. Sullivan isn't the first in this town and he won't be the last to suffer this fate. Good luck to the rest of the department when the ice cracks everyone runs away from you and your left to sink alone.

Now of we could only get the Lowell Police to resign we might have a fighting chance.

Take a ride down Bridge Street right now, there is a Police trap 2 cars sitting there pulling people over left and right, as if there is not many other things that need to be done in this pathetic excuse for a city, hit people in the wallet as much as possible. This is entrapment at its finest.

Protect and serve my Arse...more like take and screw is more like it.

Really?! That's thier job! They are probably part of their traffic division enforcing traffic laws. If they weren't there stopping speeders, slowing traffic down and looking for other violations that effected public safety, you would probably be the first one to complain and ask "where's a cop when you need one?" And it's only entrapment when your enticed into doing something you normally would not do. Don't speed and you won't be stopped!

Civil Service is not the great system people believe, it is almost impossible to discipline or remove corrupt or bad public officials.

In Massachusetts, once you get a Civil Service job, look out because they do not have to play by anybody's rules but their own

Sounds like the Selectmen are going to let these two just retire without prosecuting them. And keep it hush-hush.

Gotta love the raping tax payers are getting in that town.

To the Union hater:they paid into the pension and healthcare fund all their working careers. That is why they are getting those benefits when they retire. Agree that they were forced to retire rather than face dismissal.

Private sector, you get Social Security and when the private sector throws you off healthcare, you get Medicare.

Check out what the CEOs get when they"retire".
