I can't believe this passed. It's been said before, but there are other bodily functions that are natural that aren't performed in public and neither should this. This law isn't for women who are discreet, but for the whack jobs like the woman who decided to sit in the middle of an aisle at I Party to feed her baby there. Now it gives them the power to whip it out and press charges to anyone who says anything.

Sorry but this is the last thing I want to see while I'm eating MY dinner.

I don't consider this anymore "offensive" than parents who have small children at restaurants or iparty and let them run around and scream, disturbing everyone's peace. or watching a child sit there and pick his/her nose in public...my point is there are so many other things to be concerned or offended about. also, would you be offended when you saw a mother sitting in a chair in the bathroom breastfeeding? would you ask her to sit on toilet instead? outside in a cold car perhaps? i have never seen a breastfeeding mother "whip it out" and be indecent. half the time you can't even tell they are feeding.

beej, I have seen women at the mall and restaurants several times with absolutely no regard for anyone -- exposed for all to see. And I know I'll catch h--- for this, but it always seems to be someone about 250 pounds where it's just really hard to hide. It's just gross. I always used the dressing rooms (and even used a blanket there, unsure of the 2-way mirrors!).
Re the screaming, nose-picking kids -- probably the same parents who don't give a hoot about public nursing.:-)

Mom of 3 is afraid dad of 3 will sneak a peak. If you don't like it get lost. Its a natural thing. If someone is feeding a newborn that means the baby is hungry. You suggesting that babies don't eat?

Maybe moms like the closeness of breast feeding. Its not a money issue. If you think it is then pass out breast pumps at the mall

Yikes, so is pooping, but I don't want to see you do that either. Maybe next time someone's walking around topless, it just means she's hot, so that's ok too. Oh and BTW, what if that woman is nursing a two-year or 3-year old which is entirely within her right. Still OK?
I have no problem with nursing, just asking for some common sense and courtesy. And the last thing we need is more laws to allow lawsuits for discrimination.

I understand the theory, that your baby is hungry and needs to eat. However, yes I have seen women whip it out and kids are around making comments. Is it fair that my child should see your breast while you are breast feeding. I also saw a mother in line at a grocery store with a child that appeared to have been 3 maybe 4 yrs. of age. The child/s legs were dangling on the floor while she was being feed. If you are going to breast feed please me descreat and courtesy of others. A 5 year old shouldn't see another women's breast.

In a society that wants to legalize gay marriage, legalize pornography,(look at most of the videos on MTV), the ACLU defending NAMBLA, the courts putting level 3 sex offenders back on the street, the fasion industry has half the kids in the country running around half naked, where is the problem with doing something natural like breastfeeding an infant? A little mixed mwssage here guys? Perversion OK but not something wholesome?

Question for those who support this new law. If this is so natural, wholesome, unoffensive, or however else it's described, then why are churches excluded from this new law? It's natural in the mall, but not in a pew? Hmmmm.

maybe if Hank had you on his jury, hank wouldnt have had to bribe his guards for a copy of national geographic each month. Hank understands the closeness thing.

I always thought the East of the U.S. was full of upscale, well educated people who see the wisdom of all things. But like a lot of things in this world I was surprised you folks finally got around to legalizing breast feeding. Welcome to the Enlightenment. Sign me a Sauvage Pied Noir from the Blackfoot Nation.- Long Standing Bear Chief, Box 430, Browning, MT 59417

By the way, I am coming to your area to erect a Blackfoot Tipi in your town at the Budhist Temple along about May, 2009. We are going to have some fun. I am going to challenge some of your local engineers to a bet they cannot put up the tipi in less than an hour. I will choose the contestants at random.

The Venerable David Chutiko of Wat Buddhabhavana of Westford, MA will make up the list for me of potential contestants.

Mom of 3- The reason churches and places of worship are exempt from this law has more to do with a separation of church and state than it does with breastfeeding. All the major religions support breastfeeding. I have breastfed many, many times in many different churches. This law doesn't *give* babies the legal right to be breastfed in public. It was never illegal to breastfeed in public, this just protects breastfeeding mothers and babies from harrasment, discrimination, and prosecution (through indecency laws). It is still not *illegal* to breastfeed at a place of worship, it is just up to the individual place of worship to decide whether or not to allow it. If they decide not to allow it then that is within their rights and this law can't be used to require them to allow it.

Here is a link on breastfeeding and religion:

So much fuss over breasts. Every woman has them, some guys do too. If people want to run around topless in the summer it would be fine with me. The novelty would quickly wear off.
