I have been aware of a continuous low frequency hum pervading my area for the past few months. I live in North San Diego County. It may be likened to the sound of heavy traffic at a distance, or a flight of
helicopters approaching (I live near Camp Pendelton) but which never arrive. Another curiosity which may be relevant: X10 remote modules which I've used for over 20 years have begun acting up. They turn on
randomly and spontaneously. My computer shows no X10 signal causes them to turn on, but shows when I turn them off. I suspect power line pulses are triggering the electronic relays of the modules.

I live in Waltham ma and we have been hearing a low humming like sound emitting out if the air it seems. We mostly notice it in the evening and night time. Out house has poor insulation so I think it makes it easier to hear it. If you go out side you can still hear it if your listen hard. It goes both and on, it's been happening for months. We timed it, it stated on for 20 mins then rested for 20mins and do forth... Glad I'm not then only one hearing thus but then again sad it's evening happening... If its pipeline related, is it normal to hear it go off and on?

(I assume you mean "our"e, not "out"house.
...and speaking of that...with a 20 minute cycle, I'm curious if you have an aerobic septic system. Our pump motor that aereates the septic, cycles like that and does create a vibration in the earth by it.

Lica, I am familiar with Waltham visiting kid at Bentley. Last visit grad June 2011 and when I did listen for the hum it was mild compared to here in western CT and other locations. There is a major NE pipeline crossing Totten Pond between the ice rink and 95. How far are you from there. I will add your location to my gasline study map

Horrible humming at our place. Really audible every night at 12:30 am and seems to kick off at 5:30am..

Located on Medford Avenue in Medford, MA. Next to firestation. Zipcode 02155. Wondered if it could be from the engine idling, but I go outside and nothing. It's exactly as everyone here describes.

Can't sleep.:(

There are many from your area, that I've docuemented from numerous other forums all along teh 95 Boston corridor. As you can see a fellow MA person from Waltham on this forum. I suggest you contact your news paper about the hum problem, with or without suggesting a cause. Contact congressman Mackey (spell??) who is dealing with infrastucture issues like the gaslines, which I claim are a major cause of inducing the hum in our homes, inside parked cars, etc by us in CT. Make somee noise about it!

I have'nt posted in awhile...but want to make everyone who experiences the Hum, AWARE of the fact that if you try to make officials believe that Industry is the source of the sound they can call your local mental health unit and have you picked up. This happened to my husband and we are now afraid to even post anything. He had to stay a total of 23 days trying to explain to a foriegn Dr. how he percieves this phenomenon.
So what now? We feel our civil rights have been brutally violated and don't know what to do.
Has anyone contacted the military? Shouldn't they be aware ( or perhaps they already are) of this vicious annoyance felt by some?
They can investigate UFO's - why not this? Is it a conspiracy? I wonder.

Renee contact FERC by going throguh your congressman. Suggest the gas pipeline theory as your source.

Hopefully Darrel is healing

Steve, FERC was contacted repeadedly 2 years ago, as was the congressman, the governor and several other entities - even the DEC.
Darrell is NOT healing. This annoys him 24/7 and has changed our personal lives considerably.
We rented a Human Vibration Meter for a week and LF is present and evident. Even with this information in hand - his efforts are futile. He is positive the vibration occurs froma local Aluminum Smelting plant - a co-generation engine.
I researched this and found what they call the Wagerup Tripitite Group. Google them and see what you think - as an outsider and non sufferer I found it to be an intersting read. Also, research Regulation 17. I think you'll find both intriguing and suspicious articles as Regulation 17 ALLOWS certain entities to EXCEED any noise ordinances.
Thanks for being there, it's wonderful to have someone who understands.

Renee, I believe from afar that the engine may be causing something we call here flutter from the exhaust instabilities like the turbines they installed behind our home in our neighborhood in 2008. FERC has been here and validated we have vibration problems from it. The same line that is causing problems here in Brookfield CT and unfortunately Newtown Ct, comes in from Canada up by you. Darrell says the problem is occurring from your town to Syracuse. If you look you'll see that there are maor buried gas lines where he says he's experienced it. Go to the NPMS Public Viewer and look for yourself.

Got it here in West Michigan in the Woods. Only thing that changed in the past year is a new cell tower. Microwave transmissions from Communication companies go 30 miles to the next tower but have not seen that technology going up in some time. Mystery.

hello, Going insane in San Diego - where do you live? i live in Poway, CA 92131 and the humming noise is unbearable. im starting to wonder if this is from the sun rise powerlink transmission lines....it appears to be coming via the ground, not through the air. i dont hear it as much during the day but at night its loud.
Same here guys. I have been ” listening” to it for months now maybe longer. As I type this, I hear it loudly as well. Been awake for two hours. AGAIN. 6:35 am 3/18/2013 Penasquitos (san diego) CA.

I live in Poway and hear the low hum too. It could be coming from electrical transformers that are located in Poway. I have been hearing it for about a year and its getting worse.

I hope you get notified on my comment. Any more news since your last post? I'm in the East Hartford area, its been going on for years. It is getting so bad to the point besides loudness, radio waves, pressure I feel against my ears!!!!! I've called cops, they dont seem to care, former mayor, too busy to get back to me. I can't take it anymore, its getting debilitating!!!! Enough is enough to who is causing this!

I have heard this about 2-3 yrs now ,contacted local water company thought it was a new force main they put in, but on a recent camping trip to our local mountains and trips to the desert I still hear it.I suffer from tinnitus and have high frequency hearing loss so it seems the low frequency hum is only heard by me and not the rest of my family. After reading alot of different forums Im beginning to think this has something to do with cell towers .I was recently in a European country and did not hear the hum.Got back here and just as loud .Would be interesting if this hum will continue to grow and if more people are annoyed by it what will industry do ?Also seems to be a correlation between the first reports of this phenomenon and the issues with bee die offs????

I also live in San Diego, CA and I have been hearing that low pitch loud sound (35-50 hz) for decades now. At first we thought it was a jet passing bye, but we found the sound changes rapidly, as it shuts down rapidly as well, so we concluded it was not a jet, but industrial sound of some sort. It has been annoying the family for decades and i wonder if there is anything that can be done about that (i live near national city/south crest)
