When I was growing up in Billerica back in the 80's there were plenty of drugs, but we had many things to do, we had younger generation up in the center, dances at the schools,we had bowling, as I got older the drinking age was 18 and we were allowed down the parks with a fire no one bothered us, these days the kids can't even have a fire! There is nothing in this town for the TEENS to do but drugs and that leads to trouble.

Geez what a SHOCKER! BILLERICA kids do drugs!
There is plenty for kids to do, they just CHOOSE to do drugs, on top of it there is plenty of scum in the town that supply them with drugs.

To many people lack an understanding about the responsibility of parenthood.

When I was a kid, my parents wouldn't let me hang out downtown all day where there was a good likelyhood of getting hooked up with the wrong crowd. As it turned out myself and the other kids in my neighborhood whose parents kept an eye on found plenty of things to do. We didn't need organized activities, we managed quite well and actually had fun.

kids have no sense of respect for anything now adays. not for there parents or even there own lives. the laws stop us parents from being parents like the old days when parents could actually disaplaint there kids.its a shame but its everywhere.not just in billerica.

This is the sad poem that a lot of people search for. It's our understanding that this sad poem is titled "Death of an Innocent" or "Mom".

MOM
I went to this party mom
I remembered what you said
You told me not to drink mom
So I drank soda instead.

I felt real proud inside mom
The way you said I would
Even though all my friends mom
Told me that I should.

I know I did the right thing mom
I know your always right
The party's finally ending mom
As everyone drove out of sight.

As I got inside my car mom
I knew I'd get home in one piece
'Cause the way you made me feel mom
So responsible so sweet.

I started to drive away mom
As I pulled into the road
The other guy didn't see me mom
And hit me like a load.

I lay there on the pavement mom
I hear the policeman say
The other guy was drunk mom
Now I'm the one to pay.

I'm lying here dying mom
I wish you'd get here soon
How come this happened to me mom
My life bursted like a balloon.

There's blood all around me mom
Most of it is mine
I hear the paramedics say mom
I'll die in a short time.

He didn't know where he was going mom
He was probably at the same party as I
There's one big difference though mom
He's going to live while I die.

Why do people drink mom
It can ruin your whole life
I'm feeling sharp pains mom
Just like a burning knife.

The man who hit me mom
Is walking, it's no fair
I'm lying here dying mom
While all he does is stare.

Tell my brother not to cry mom
Tell dad to be brave
For when I'm in heaven mom
Write my name upon my grave.

Someone should have told him mom
Not to drink and drive
If they'd often take the time mom
I'd still be alive.

My breath is growing short mom
I'm becoming very scared
Please don't cry for me mom
'Cause when I needed you, you were there.

I have one last question mom
Before I say good-bye
I didn't even drink mom
So why am I the one to die.

This is the end mom
I wish I could look you in the eye
To say these final words mom
I LOVE YOU & GOOD-BYE.

Do you really believe the numbers in this survey are valid? Of course there is drug and alcohol use, but when you poll teens or pre-teens anomolously they are going to greatly exaggerate their coolness and/or choose something to shock people. Many of the people agonizing over this poll are looking to gain money either through grants or budget increases

In the 70s I knew a kid from Billerica who came from a good family but got into drugs. Eventually he got hooked on speed and went to jail for robbery. When he got out he drank himself to death.

Sad story.
