Will Rice prosecute gang members as aggressively? Hey Rice, we need you to go after the GANG MEMBERS, HOME INVADERS, and DRUG DEALERS that are terrorizing our communities!!!

These old timers with their early bird three drink dinner fianlly made it on the radar screen, time time step up enforcement. They think they own the road.
I say re-test these old people every year over 60 or let them take a cab.

It's the YOUNG drivers that cause most of the accidents, not the elderly!!

I remember that night. Knowing he was drunk, Kohler left that man to die in the roadway.
Let's hope the drunken pig rots in jail for the balance of his miserable life. I hope he burns in hell.

This was NO accident! He was drunk, so drunk he hit a poor guy and left him in the street to die. Testing someone to see if their vision or reflexs have changed is not going to help stop people from drving drunk. Obviously with his long history of arrests and DUI, DWI he never learned.

That's because the young drivers are trying to get out of the way of the old coots mindless meandering of the roadways.

The legal incentive for drunk drivers to leave the scene of an accident has to be addressed.

If he had NOT driven away, he'd be guilty of some sort of homicide.

Even a drunk can do the math.

Terrible legal predicament.

God bless Prof. Singh' family.

I hope he gets the max. Why wasn't his vehicle ever taken away if he has a history of drunk driving? Where is his family? They obviously had to know of his behavior. Shame on them for not putting a stop to it.

He only killed one person. Daniella Baymack ( Police officer) killed a fellow cop and only got 9 months. I feel sorry for the family of the victim because for the rest of there lives they will watch Drunk Driver kill and get set free.

This is a strange result. The defendant is linked to the accident scene, and the government successfully proves that that he had left the accident scene, which involved a fatality. Yet, Ms. Rice's office cannot prove that even a "negligent homicide" had occurred? Either there is some misreporting here or there is some gross prosecutorial incompetence. If this is yet another example of Rice's incompetence, it should be more aggressively vetted by the press.

7 years? What a poor message. Being he's 78 he should live out his days in the slammer. Someone is dead due to his poor actions & alcoholism. End of story

That was unfortunate. Regretfully, the victim's family had everything to do with the leniency issue in that one

I drove past the accident scene that night perhaps only a minute after it happened. Mr. Singh was lying in the middle of the road. He was hit so hard that he was knocked clear out of his shoes, which were also lying in the middle of the road some 20-30 feet away. My heartfelt sympathies continue to go out to his grieving family.

With this defendant's driving history I find it mind-boggling that he was not found guilty of manslaughter. I know DA Rice is a staunch supporter of harsher penalties for DWI related fatalities, so how did this one get away? Was the prosecutor not allowed to bring in his abominable prior driving record? If so, legislation must be passed to get this kind of information into evidence. When it was originally made public all I could think of was how is this selfish criminal still operating a motor vehicle?

I don't get it. Why isn't Kathleen Rice having this 78 yo man charged with murder. Isn't that her stance? She charged that 20-something idiot who killed the members of that wedding party on the Meadowbrook with murder. Why is she sending a different message now? What gives? How can she go on TV and claim DWI is murder and not follow through on this case? Ya think it won't be very popular since this guy is elderly and living in a senior facility? Another political hack trying to make a name for herself! Shame!

For what he did, it is not long enough! The family of the man that was killed have a life sentence. This is not someone who just did this one time, he has a history of this behavior. Maybe these people who drive drunk, have had several license suspensions, etc. should go to jail right away, instead of having their hands slapped. Had they done that with this guy, Mr. Singh might still be alive!

I forgot about the other incident with the wedding party on Meadowbrook. I believe that is the one where the child was decapitated, right? I totally agree with your comments, Why was'nt this guy charged with murder? He should have been. He delibertly got into his car and he has had several other of the same offenses, this is definitely a person who knew better and took a loaded weapon out on to the street. I don't see any difference in this case except the age of the victim. Nassau County Officials - are you paying attention?

There are at least four other outstanding hit-run crimes that have not been solved:
1) The death of a woman crossing a street in Inwood on November 21, 2008.
2) The death of a man crossing North Main Street, Freeport, in the early hours of January 8, 2008.
3) The death of a woman crossing Covert Avenue, just south of the tracks in New Hyde Park, December 23, 2007.
4) The death of a woman crossing Grand Avenue, Baldwin, just south of Sunrise Highway, February 8, 2007.

I'm glad they got Kohler, but the killers in these cases may still be at large.
