Skate park revving up in Carbondale

There's been drinking, drugs and mischief Skateboarders could soon have a place to practice ollies, kickflips and nose and tail grinds as construction crews work on a skate park in the Belmont Street Park. via The Times-Tribune

Kids doing something physical instead of nodding their heads to their i-pods and blobbling in front of tv/video screens are obviously a threat to some people. These skateboarders are athletes, just informal ones. I am so happy the street my father was raised on boasts this addition.

But kids today have too much leisure time. They should be out picking coal - walk the railroad tracks a pick the coal that falls off of trains. Sure it's illegal, but it helps heat the house.

Maybe if they built a Bingo Hall for kids, or teach them to dance the polka. These are real life skills.

And I was shocked and delighted to see this skate park when I was in NEPA this past weekend! So many kids were utilizing it! Absolutely wonderful. Please make sure it's kept up. I don't know who's idea it was, but I thank them!

Yeah check out the park now! It was a big mistake. Nothing but gangs and trouble. I was talking with a teenage kid from down the street the other day and he said he wouldn't skateboard there because of the "people" just hanging around. Oh and wait til a kid gets hurt and his parents sue the city.

It's going to get worse when they finish building the Hotel Carbondale. Now there will be a place for people to stay when they visit their relatives at Farview.

The park is a great idea, but there are way too many kids who just stand around and get in the way of the skaters and bikers.

and Walking the railroad.
Old school ways and coal cracking ways.
get real.
skateboard Park.
I don't think it is soluitition to a issue.
there are many other options,
My wife and have traveled 500 miles beyond these mountains and we see many educational and young people working to earn money to and ect.
There are a lot of options out there.
But once again it is local politicians and uneducated voters that are blind to the facts.
and behind on what is going on out there.
Or with there old school ways refuse see beyond
there selfish ways.
Get with the program people.

The skatepark is a positive thing, the problemis that the Carbondale locals are acting like typical white trash and messing it up for those who legitimatly wish to use it.

It's not going to improve things. I live near Carbondale..you don't. So you don't have to be disgusted every day when you see what is happening with that town. It's gross. It has never been worse.

I don't consider myself to be "white trash". I am a local business owner, taxpayer, and Carbondale resident. I know there are some people that live in Carbondale that can be considered "white trash" but there are others besides whites that can be trash also, not just whites. Are all these people there to skate? Or maybe for something else? Do they even have a skateboard on them? I just call it as I see it. Yeah a skate park is something positive, but it's in a bad neighborhood. Maybe it would have worked out better if it was someplace else,(there's a few more neglected parks in town,) or if it was supervised. Another thing, it's on top of an old paved over cemetery. Only in Carbondale!

Desiree ... did you go to Pioneer Nights ! It should be renamed White Trash Reunion. For people who grew up in Carbondale it is a disgrace to see what is happening there.

It's 2007 every place but Carbondale. When you go to Carbondale, you have to turn your watch back 10 years or so.
