It's becoming a crime ridden hell hole right before our eyes. 2 student robberies this week alone. Heaven forbid their enrollment drops, let's go get some thugs to come attend that have no interest in going to school. Then for the kids that want to learn, their instructors walk out on them mid semester to strike. A dam shame is what it is.

The gangs in the south side send their little bangers here to sell drugs while get govt money to go to school ( which they are not). The school is mandating the instructors to pass the failing students so they keep getting their funding. Homecoming weekend their was a shooting at Lewis park apartments by on of them.

Carbondale always was a dump of a town that only existed to provide jobs to those disgusting miners years ago. Now with the mines closed it is a complete dump and that college is just a place for the hoodies from Chicago to party a couple of years on a Pell Grant on their way to prison
What a dump

I laughed like hell seeing that little group of freaks against fracking on tv. What a bunch of rejects. Their mom should have been against fracking and the world would be better off.

Well if you thought they were something you should've seen these Occupy Carbondale kids camping out on campus. They stood behind the teacher's union when they went on strike. Many teachers making six figures while enrollment dropping and state is broke, then strike because they don't have a contract! Hell for that much I'd go with no contract. Our income tax was raised 67% to pay for public workers pensions and corporate taxes raised driving businesses out of Illinois. I hope the Occupy Carbondale movement accomplished their goal and all found a good job here in Illinois lol!! Face/palm!!

It takes nothing more than to google "fracking" to find out how moronic your statement is. That was a highly educated group of over 200. Go Frack yourself.

Looks like more money for your state! I see your name says Paducah. By the way me and my family love going there to shop and go out to eat. Its a clean beautiful area. We have many southern illinoisans that would like our area to be a nice attractive area like yours but we are being devoured by liberal sheep. Carbondale is turning into a ghetto right before our eyes. Liberal policies have failed those that work for a living.

That happened in GOREVILLE, not Carbondale, for crying out loud. Most of Carbondale's basketball team is black as well, you idjit.

Not only that, but the incident in Goreville has already been proven false by the bus driver for Cairo as well as security footage from the high school. It was one stupid kid in a pickup truck who passed the bus.

Funny how people who keep talking about that game don't bring up the fact that the cheerleading coach for Cairo, the one who called all the news outlets and made up this ridiculous story, spent the whole game screaming at the refs and accusing them of being racist as well.

It's sad that our local news outlets never followed up on the story other than the TV news showing the security footage of the bus leaving the parking lot without any problems. They were more than happy to play up a big story about supposed racism, but when the truth came out all it got was a fleeting mention.

It's also funny how no one ever talks about the fact that most schools are afraid to travel to Cairo for games because of all the violent behavior that has been exhibited there in the past.

I know what the post said, lol. The OP, from Carbondale, called the town a drug cesspool, and then you or whoever it was I quoted responded by saying "I expect this from a town...". Well Carbondale is NOT the town where that incident happened, is it?

And I guess it makes me a racist for pointing out the truth of that story, eh? ONE student did admit to following the bus with a confederate flag on his truck. ONE. And he was suspended for it, as he should have been.

The cheerleading coach from Cairo told the news that Goreville people blocked the entrance and wouldn't let the bus leave. All of this has been PROVEN false by the actual security camera footage that was shown on the news on both ABC and NBC.

The same woman claimed that the kid was waving a gun and firing shots in the air. The bus driver for Cairo told police he never saw a gun and believes it was only the truck backfiring as it accelerated past them.

So excuse me for pointing out the TRUTH of the incident, as reported. I'm not using any secondhand accounts, just what was in the freaking news. You (or whoever it is) are trying to condemn a whole town because ONE stupid kid.

If you can't say anything bad about Cairo without being labelled a racist, then so be it. In 2004, Cairo got mentioned on ESPN's Sportscenter because their fans started a riot after losing to Massac County. They stormed the court and threw bottles and cans. Four people were injured and many arrested. The assistant basketball coach was even officially charged with inciting a riot. And that was the only game the team had lost that season!

There are many other incidents, including throwing soda bottles on the court in Pinckneyville just a couple of years ago,as well as many, many fights. Several teams in the past have taken Cairo off their schedule due to fear of violence.

I could say the same thing about the athletes at Benton High School as well. They had a fight at a football game just earlier this year, and they nearly had a fight at a basketball game in Herrin last year. So I guess I'm racist against everyone.

I check with ABC and NBC no footage from Goreville Schools .
Why did the IHSA move the regional tournament from Goreville if what you say is true .

We need to do better at who we bring here. Getting thugs that have no interest in school just to get enrollment numbers up is proving to have consequences.
