These are the types of problems that we see with the veterans and still the government doesn't acknowledge those that battle for us. Give these people the help they need so situations like this don't have to happen.

I acknowledge that he was in the war and thank goodness and god bless our veterans. But that is no excuse, he served 2 hours in Vietnam while there are soldiers serving multiple years in Iraq and you dont see them coming back and killing people. That is just an excuse and not a very good one. I am just gonna say that he is a bitter old man that obviously cant hold his liquor.

As clearly stated in the story, he served two TOURS in VietNam, not two hours. TOURS are multiple years.

God Bless the victims and their families, and his family as well. Hopefully the man will get the help he needs now.

Kris from IL, Rossi spent years in Vietnam, not two hours. He had permanent injuries to his feet from walking through the jungles with wet feet for weeks on end. He certainly went through enough to have a life time of nightmares.
I knew "Rossi" 15 years ago and he was a caring, fun loving, sweet man who cared for so many people. There is no excuse for what he did, but at one time, Rossi was one of the best people around.

It makes me sick that people make excuses for this smurderer. I was at the sandbar when this happened. He could have killed me, my wife or my 9 month old daughter. He knowingly drank alchol when he is not supposed to when he is on medication. He carried a GUN and not just any gun a .45 caliber automatic pistol when he has been caught and beened warned he is not alloweed to have a gun. Rather than blame viet nam blame this loser. I feel simpathy for the victims who are either dead or changed for life, but for him I hope he rots in jail till the day he dies!!!!!!

We were at the Sandbar also. We are a family who was vacationing. HOW DARE YOU MAKE EXCUSES???? Vietnam changed his life , yet he inflicts the same horror on our college age kids and us?! And you make excuses??? He knowingly suffered post traumatic stress, yet "packed a gun" as he yelled to us before he began firing. fragments of cement sprayed my sons body as he was hiding on the floor and watched the man next to him get shot mutiple times in the chest. I believe you people feeling sorry for him helped lead to his actions.

I just watched the video of this awfull act. Acts like this make me angry. Angry that innocent poeple have to die but I get even more angry when no one stepped up to try to stop the shooter. Bryant Compton said in his interview " I was difentely angry while I watched him shoot people on the floor right next to me." My question is Why didn't you act? Why didn't you put fear beside and stop him! Vailresident, Steeler Fans, everyone else there What about you. Why didn't you have the tools to protect your family. Why didn't you have the tools to protect the people getting shot. Not having a gun is not an excuse. Colorado is a Concealed handgun-permit state. "I'll never need a gun" well it just happened right in front of you, and you did nothing. Look- these 'Active Shooter' situations may become more and more common. The only thing you can do is be ready. Have the tools to defent that 9 month old little girl even if she is a stranger to you. It can happen anywhere. Be prepared and STOP BEING THE VICTIM THAT YOU ARE TODAY.

How can "why" make such statements. My responsibility is to protect my family, and that is what I did. I am sure if you had a nine month old daughter there you would have left her alone as you went to fight a lunatic with an automatic weapon and you have a spoon. I was not in the immediate area as the steeler fan was. I had no idea what had happened. I heard some loud shouting and then the shots. After that I saw everyone running towards me because I was close to the back exit. I suppose you would have run against the crowd toward automatic weapons fire even though you had no idea if it was a gang fight, drug deal gone bad, multiple people armed assalants.
If it happened again today I would do the exact same thing. PROTECT MY FAMILY. Maybe you are some rambo or maybe you are some blowheart who has never been in a situation like that

By the way his real military record has now come out he was a teletype operator who never saw direct fighting. He spent two years in the army then discharged. Since 1976 he has been arrested in vail 18 times, many for gun charges, harassment, reckless endangerment, illegal discharge of a firearm.
I know this loser because he skied vail everyday. He would park his car in the inner village at one of the only handicap parking spaces in the inner village. He would leave it there all day as he skied. He claimed he should be alloweed because of his so called mental illness regardless of the fact that he had no physical disibilty.

I have known Rossi since the seventies, since both of us are long time locals. I got to know him much better when he worked as a handy man/gardener for a summer for my old boss. This is where I learned that he was a scammer, loser, theif and lier. One example of this is he left without warning and stole over $1,000 in tools. When he came back into town, he told me that our boss "Owed Rossi the tools since his pay wasn't what he thought he deserved."

I last talked to him a few days before the shooting. He was concerned because Rossi's new landlord was upset to find out that Rossi had four cats and not two like he was told. Rossi reffered to his landlord in some pretty unflattering terms.
My experience with Rossi is that he was a very unballenced man who thought the world owed him everything. I have to say, I was not at all suprised when I heard that the shooter was him. I hope he can get locked away somewhere where he can get the help he so desperatly needs. He is a very angry man.

He wasnt even front line fighting. He was a computor tech.....He claimed to have held a friend in his arms as he died. Thats B.S. He was never on the front line. Also, if a man has to take muliple meds throughout the day to "keep his sanity" maybe he shouldnt be sitting at the Sandbar with a loaded .45......poor guy my a**. A friend of mine was shot because of his frustration of being kicked out of his house.

Why from Evergreen....Ide like to see you try to take down a crazy drunk guy shooting at people....you would probably be the first to hit the floor just like everyone else. You can talk the way you are talking but until you are in the same situation, you have no idea, and to even insinuate that it was the others presents fault is terrible!

Also WHY....we dont ever have shootings or murders here in Vail, so none of us feel or think that we need to carry a weapon. I realize you are not from here and that you might see more crime where ever you are from, but dont for one second try to blame any of us for this. I'm sure that if crime happened here alot, more of us would carry, but we dont and there is no way that anyone could have done anything other then what they did.

AGREED- We would do nothing different. We did what we had to do to stay alive.... and it worked. My husband was brave enough to go back inside while Moreau was still armed to carry Jim (The gentlemen on life support) out. Although we did not know Jim, we went to the hospital to see him. We were told that if he had laid 5 minutes longer, there is no way he would be alive. He lost a lot of blood. To everyone involved- You should be proud of your actions. We are fortunate there was only fatality. May peace be with Dr. Garys family.

Dear Steeler fan
I want to thankyou for your heroic efforts that night. There is no doubt that there would have been more than the one fatality if not for your husband. If not for your husband it would have been 30 minutes till Jim had his blood loss under control. I for one do not understand why your husband went in to save a life, but the police took 30 minutes to go in!. There should be someone speaking out about that. To think that the man hiding behind the sound booth was waiting that long with that lunatic still sitting on the floor

I am completely in shock at what Vail residents are saying here about this murderer - let's not mince words as that is what he is pure and simple - he killed an incredible man who was a father, husband and grandfather - took his life for no reason - stop defending him or saying now he will get the help he needs - take responsibility for your own part in this - you knew he needed help and was violent yet did NOTHING! I hope you and the Vail police walk through life knowing you could have stopped this senseless murder from happening and didn't. he deserves no sympathy at all - none. only the victims do.
