I wonder how many people would sign a Petition to save Gilchrist and the Boliver Penninsula off of Galveston Texas? WE should not let us lose this wonderful place.Where you hear no sirens, horns, screaming & shootings, and people that live there are so nice. This is so hard to come by these days.I will be the first. Just a small comment to Michael, who commented from San Antonio:
I'm not real sure why you think the Gilchrist area is a "dump hole and shit hole" as you called it; but, I think you need to remember that people there lost "everything" they had! Just because you live in a big city, doesn't mean that you are any better than those people. They are human beings with families, friends and lives to live...just like you. I just hope and pray to God, that you never have to go through the tragedy and devastation so many of these people have lived through. May God spare you their pain and agony. I just wonder if you would be saying the same thing if some of those people had been your family members or good friends?

I sure am going to miss this place!!! I grew up going here to the reynolds retreat, formally Barnets Cabins. My parents have been going there since they were 19! We loved it there. It was our home away from home!!!! REST IN PEACE former GILCREST!!!!

I hope they rebuild Gilchrist. My father built Faggard Slip Road as a favor to his friend, Mr. Faggard which I think is probably Shawn's grandfather. It's my old stomping grounds & don't want to see such a way of life be gone forever.

don't worry about comments like his. I believe it will be rebuilt and when the time comes for that to happen I along with others I know will be donating our time and making monetary donations where needed to see that it happens asap. I lost alot during IKE but can't be extremely upset about my loss because it does not even compare to what many people in that area lost.

The beach wasn't the best and the Gulf wasn't always clean, but we had a house on Faggard's Slip Rd that has been in our family since 1948 and I had been going there as long as I can remember to fish, vacation and to just relax. I don't feel like I lost "everything" even though we lost our cabin, but the loss was significant because of the sentimental value. We had a lot of things in there that we can never replace. What I'm wondering now is, does anyone know when we will be allowed to begin rebuilding?

Had a house there. Vacationed in Gilchrist with parents then kids and then grandkids. Hope it's rebuilt so others can enjoy the same family time that we did.

My sister also lives in San Antonio, but also had a house in Gilchrist,Tx. Also my whole family had homes and businesses in Gilchrist. We owned cabins that had been there for years. Cabins that I went to since I was a kid. Everyone that we rented to had been there since they were a kid because there father and or grandfather had brought them there. These cabins were over 50 years old. For you to say this is a shit hole is not true at all. I have so many people who have tracked down my cell # to see if there was any way that they could help rebuild what we lost. The cabin number was always forwarded to my cell number. Customers never new my cell number. If you've never been here, who are you to jugde?
Have you never been here? Have you never enjoyed the hospitality of the Gilchrist Community? We always made our customers feel welcome. We had a private pier and cosy cabins. Rollover Pass is world known as one of the best fishing spots in the world. Who are you to judge that this is a shit hole? San Antonio is a shit hole for flying the Mexican flag above the Texas flag in front of the Alamo.(reynoldsretreat@gmail.c om)

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Virgo

It's okay to have high expectations, but try to keep in mind that no one can be all things to all people. As the Moon spends one last day in its current sign, it urges you to find a way to recognize others for their strengths, and forgive them their weaknesses. Virgoans' idiosyncrasies must look like strange quirks from the outside as well! Fate ties up the loose ends towards the end of the day.
