I like the God of America. I like that He is so potent that people hate Him. Jesus said He came to bring division. I am thankful for the bible, for it gives alternative thought to the confusion that is growing so rampant. If you take conservatism to the far left or right it becomes frightening. Democracy is only stable until the citizens of that democracy realize they can unite and withdraw the public funds to themselves, which has happened. Progressive liberalism, heck just look at Gorky, he would legalize everything. Everyone wants to do whatever they want to do and rationalize it all under the umbrella of freedoms.
My goodness, if you sit down and rationally project the future by the numbers.......
Such a thought causes me to be thankful for a clearly defined God who assures me He's got a plan.
I have remodeled many a home. In a remodel you always make the house worse before you make it better.
I for one praise the name of Jesus and am thankful that when my world becomes unrecognizable the old rugged cross never changes one iota.

When a dancer is spinning across the floor it is mandatory for that person to relocate the same stationary object on each revolution. Otherwise the dancer will get dizzy and fall.
So, as the world turns and chaos reigns like a tornado, just remember that 2013 years ago Jesus did die undeniably and the things He said have not changed by a single word in all that time. Hope for the hopeless.

Assault weapons to Jesus. Clearly a wide spectrum. Far better than assault weapons without Jesus ;-))

I am going to praise the name of Jesus because I can.
I am so thankful that I don't go through every single day having to validate my sexual preference to myself and to others. My guess is that it would be like being trapped in high school gym class for the rest of my life.
The list is endless but I have chosen this thankfulness today because the endless accusations of being a hater of homosexuals is so tiring.
Truth be told, I do not hate homosexuals but I am thankful that I am not one.
There but for the grace of God go I.

He found me when I was lost and bound up my wounds. He protected me from my assailants. Guarded me, offering me rest. He has exposed deceiving adversaries. He has housed me. Found work for me to do. Given me courage, charity and a sound mind. He has loved me when I was unlovable. Accepted me when I thought I was unacceptable.
Jesus is my Redeemer. He bought me back from a life of purposelessness.
I praise the matchless name of Jesus.

Jesus was an excellent philosopher and visionary of what we humans need to become a civil culture. It is very simple: Love your neighbor as you love yourself and do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
There are still a few denominations that follow that philosophy while the majority use religion as a club to beat "non-believers" into submission.

There are two gospels.

Many are drawn to the gospel of Satan because it is appealing:

"...the gospel of Satan teaches salvation by works. It inculcates justification before God on the ground of human merits. Its sacramental phrase is "Be good and do good"; but it fails to recognize that in the flesh there dwelleth no good thing."

But the gospel of Christ is something quite different.

Actually RuiRes, there are more than two gospels. In addition to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John of the New Testament there were the four "Nag Hammadi Gospels" that were not canonized by the fourth Century AD Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Saint Constantine.

"Be good and do good" is from Indian Vedic philosophy, which was established 1000-500 BCE., at least 500 years before the birth of Jesus. Don't get me wrong, I think that without Jesus, this philosophy would maybe not have been passed on to the present.

There are still many modern day Christians that don't practice the Vedas because of the squabble between those who say Jesus said it's all about "works" or that Jesus said it's all about "faith"

I'm not a Jesus expert by any means, but I think that Jesus meant to say that both versions were equally correct.

I'm pretty certain that Satan is a metaphor for everything that is evil and can't be explained why it exists and that God is a metaphor for everything else that we humans don't understand.

I might be wrong, but it is an explanation that doesn't require magical thought.

You do not accept this, but the message of the Scriptures, and history, testify to the work and person of Jesus Christ. He was eternal God, within the trinity of God, who came to seek and save that which was lost.

For the most part, the gnostic gospels are yet another variation of the gospel of Satan. Compare the analysis below with my previous quote - they are both of the same cloth:

"...they [the Nag Hammadi Gospels] have seen Jesus not as the one who, climactically and decisively, died on the cross and rose again, but simply as a teacher. This is the heart of it all. They have made the message about Jesus not good news about something that has happened, but good advice as to how one might re-order one’s life."

http://www.theopedia.com/Nag_Hammadi_Library

If you want to know the real Jesus, then I encourage you to read the Bible. It tells the story, from Genesis to Revelation, of the salvation secured by Christ for his sinful people - his bride.

First off Randy, if you put forth the question with the preformed notion of comparing it to the data you already have stored in your mind, then expect nothing.
If you are seriously seeking Him (God) than I will try to explain but 'Salvation is of the Lord'.
Gospel was a commonly used word in olden times. From some of my searches the word that went out concerning Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was called,'The Way'.
Seriously though, we can be certain that all the people of the time were aware of these things.
Chuck Colsen of Nixon's Watergate wrote that one of the keys that turned him was that he had just witnessed how quickly a lie falls apart when five or more try to keep the same lie. He expressed his surety that the stories about Jesus could never have been lies because the basic structure of hundreds of peoples stories didn't deteriorate in an 80 year time span. This was how he began his walk of faith.
What is it about Jesus? The more the bible progresses, the more we become aware that God had a growing issue with 'Justice'. Justice had to be served, otherwise He(God) would be seen as unjust. That was unacceptable. So, if we analyze who Jesus says He was, then the final answer is that God took His own justice upon Himself in order that He could justly have a relationship with us, His creation. God did supply the Lamb for the necessary blood sacrifice to appease Justice. Jesus became the perfect Lamb of God.
Now, if we quickly look at Gen.3, we see that transgression caused a halting of Adams ability to walk in the garden with his God and Father. Now, jump to the cross where Jesus says,'It is Finished'. What was finished? All I know is that it quickly says that,'the veil was torn in two'. The veil that concealed the Holy of Holies. The meeting place with God. So, access to God had been reopened by the obedience of Jesus in satisfying the need for Justice. So, Love satisfied it's own issues so that it could continue to Love. Marvelous!
The implication that Jesus was part man, yet went through with what He did. Being innocent, He took what I deserve. This is why I follow Him. Because He actually wants me.
