So Heisenberg, which one of Joe's telescopes are you most impressed with?
I'm most impressed with the 12 incher in Uranus. LMAO! Melrose, Capatan, Tatum?

I was walkin' into walmart tonight and happened to look up. I noticed that the moon was unusually far away and that there was a tiny star very close to it. Was it a planet or a star? And why so far away tonight? Thanks for some info if you can.

The moon may appear further away because it's orbit is elliptical. That "star" that you saw close to the moon tonight is the planet Jupiter.
very cool

While I haven't personally viewed through this particular scope, which I gather he's acquired since living in alamogordo, I understand he's now got himself a large (180mm?) APM/TMB Refractor upon an AP1200GTO Mount. Is that correct?

Taking a wild educated guess, I'd say that combo is nearing quite closely to $30K worth of Scope/Mount.

A scope of that size and quality, and on a good night of steady seeing, one with good vision might perhaps be able to see spokes in Saturn's Rings. It's a good test for a 7"Apo.

The Great Hexagon Star Party
Saturday, February 9, 2013
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Oliver Lee Memorial State Park Group Shelter

The Amateur Astronomers Group will sponsor an evening under the stars. Watch the Jupiter rise over the Sacramento Mts. Jupiter is at its closes approached to earth, so this should be a great time to view it. A Crescent Moon and a few Geminid meteors will enliven the evening. Dress warmly, come early and enjoy a beautiful Dog Canyon Sunset.
