I had a great job recently lost it and haven't found another. I was fixing to get braces for my son when. Had insurance but now due to job loss only thing I can afford is medicaid. But he needs braces and I haven't found much out on this topic. Thanks

They may cover orthodontics under certain circumstances, but usually only if it is "medically necessary" and will probably require pre-authorization. Check to see if the orthodontist you choose accepts medicaid, because many do not. There are a few outside of Cape that accept it, this website may help

Did u see how much it was for COBRA. I lost my job but kept my dental. I have to pay $50 month for family of 5. It's the exact plan u had. You have I think 60 days to continue your old employers dental coverage.

Last I knew, the requirements for braces on medicaid were the child had to be at least 12, they could not have any baby teeth, and they had to be referred and the closest place that did them and accepted medicaid was close to st louis.

medicaid only covers medical needs they wont cover cosmetic procedures and braces are concidered cosmetic because people dont need straight teeth to function. i would check on some dental insurance and see if that would cover them. But i am not sure if dental insurance covers braces when I had them I just had to pay out of pocket.

Medicaid will pay for braces. There is a rating scale for the severity or need for braces. Dr. Redigar (sp?) in Festus accepts Medicaid. He offers free consultations and is very nice. He will explain how it all works. He doesn't see Medicaid patients until they are 12 yrs or older. I know this for a fact. We have gotten a free consultation. My child doesn't rate enough for Medicaid to pay, I will do a payment plan with a local orthodontist.

Medicaid will cover it. But there are certain dentist that will accept medicaid to cover braces. There is one in St. Louis, I know it's a bit of a drive, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do. They do have to get it pre-certified before they can do it also. As foe the job, good luck in finding a decent one with good insurance. There are not alot of jobs around here.

An overbite is NOT a serious medical condition! No dentist would tell you that he has to have braces to function! I agree with the previous post, wait until you have another job that offers dental insurance! He will survive without them I promise!

Some of you are some real peices of work. A mother who wants the best for her child has asked a question. Would you want your child to be made of because of their teeth? I know I wouldn't and if Medicaid was an option and that is all I had, I would do it.
Being unemployed can be very humbling. I have worked since I was 16. I have been on my current job for over 5 years and I will be unemployed by the end of the year by no fault of my own. So if I have to resort to Medicaid until I can get another job and my children need something then I will take full advantage as I have paid in my dues and I am not trying to make it a lifestyle.
Maybe if your life wasn't so miserable you wouldn't have to point out flaws of others.
Good luck on getting your son some braces.

Dr. Joseph Dorsey in Florissant of Gateway Orthodontics does but they use a points system meaning the more points you get, the worse off your teeth are. If they are terribly crooked or spaced out then you'll have a better chance of getting excepted. I haven't been in years so Im not sure if he still does or not.

Well thanks. I don't like being on medicaid, I find it embarrassing but like you I paid my dues. I worked at same place for 15 yrs and I'm not making it a life style. I prefer to have a job and make good money. It wasn't my fault I ost my job. I feel like I've paid in plenty for people to live off the sytem and right now I need help and guess what that's what its for. Help, not to live on forever. I am going to night school for more training as well as looking for a job. I hope noone has to go from doing well to just surviving because it sucks.

I don't qualify for medicaid and am one of the many people who unfortunately have no insurance. I can't afford it and putting food on the table is more important. I know families from the St. louis are who have benefitted from the program. So don't try to shame people who rely on medicaid because it's just a sad attempt to make yourself look better. I will not feel sorry for anyone because we all have our own problems.

We are probably worked together. They have been letting us go since the first quarter. It is a good paying job and I am going to miss it, I don't look forward to struggling. I will not be ashamed to get my medical assistance either if I need it, because I can't afford the COBRA prices, being that I have seen what people pay for insurance out of pocket. It costs more than some people's mortgage.

I'm glad somebody stood up and made a comment. Like said paerents are looking out for their kids. My son was bullied a lot and I would do anything to help him. Plus we have worked and for years paying into these programs. So if you can get it done ......go for it. Also like said people are just dogging people to make themselves better and probably haven't lost their jobs yet with kids.

I have no problem with people who need medical care getting assistance from the government. I do, however, think it's a load of crap that some people can get braces paid for but we had to pay $1,500 down and now I make monthly payments of $142. Why is your child more important than mine? Because I have a job? Horseshit.

Hey guess what u have a job and insurance. I was let go from a job that I made $50000 a year. Not by choice. I can't afford cobra its $1200 a month for my family. That's as much as a house payment. I'm barely making it now. I have paid for people to live off the system for yrs. I worked at same place 15+ yrs. I paid my dues. I don't want my kids not having something for insurance medicaid was only option and I actually pay monthly for it cuz I'm over their limit for free medicaid. I just asked a ?, u all don't have to be hateful. I hope none of u lose ur job and have noway to keep medical on ur kids. If u do then u would understand. Its sucks but they made these programs to HELP people who needed it for a short time. I am not gonna have it forever. I am trying to get a better job. I want to show my kids that even when all comes crashing down u can still get up and survive. I'm going back to school after all these yrs to get a degree and make excellent $ again.
