I'm not talking about people who Google and regurgitate information (weight lifter), I'm wondering what traits you think make a person intelligent. It's up for debate among the scientific community, but I want to know what you think.

I look for funny. It suggests you are an independent thinker. If you are funny, you are also smart. And yeah, Google and regurgitate people are usually the biggest idiots.

I think that one that can express their true emotions and thoughts in life with out drama. Some one that thinks before they speak and feels the same about something all the way around. Never changing for anyone.

Common sense. You can make it thru life on common sense probably. It wouldn't be easy, but you can do it. Brains don't make you intelligent, they make you smart. I know some pretty dumb smart people. Here's one for you....... guy i went to school with. smartest kid i graduated with. could divide triple digits within seconds in his head, etc............. downloaded child porn onto his work computer.......

I can agree with being funny as a trait of intelligence. I would also have to say that proper spelling and grammar is a large part of portraying intelligence also(having said that no I'm not perfect). Justme stated it similarly to what I would have said, that being able to state your opinions on a subject without spouting off insults is key. I guess then in turn an intelligent person can withhold emotions.

I like what you said about being able to control emotions. I believe EQ is just as important as IQ.

It's hilarious how much everyone let's "weight lifter" bother them. I know this person and they are very intelligent. Honestly most intelligent person I know and I have many very educated friends and family members. I do have to say most people on TOPIX are a bunch of idiots.

Life experience combined with a college degree makes for a very focused individual.

All you have to do to BE intelligent is SAY that you are. And, while you're talking about how intelligent you are, at the same time as you're drawing Social Security because you're freaking CRAZY, just say how you're a genius, and everyone else is STUPID WHITE TRASH! Yeah, you won't look even crazier. You'll look SMMMMMMMMMMMMMARRRRTTT!

Must have missed this thread, been busy tho. So, intellect? Emotion has nothing to do with it, which is processed in different parts of the brain and is also influenced by experience. Upanddown is right in problem solving. Lots of people can memorize and repeat. Finding new answers is themark of intellect. Creative thinking. Improv. Show me where I googled this since I'm not intelligent.

Weight lifter, you didn't answer the question. What do YOU think, not what is. I also think emotional intelligence is just as important as IQ. I don't know what makes you so dumb, but it really works. Oh, and good job on Googling and rephrasing!

It depends on your definition of intelligence. Our socio-economic surroundings will naturally come into play. What is intelligence in the backwoods of Kentucky is not the same for wall street. To be able to diseminate information and life experience in order to better yourself and interact with those you come in contact with and to be able to properly express coherent thoughts and ideas. Which, by the way happens rarely anymore.
