When dogs eyes turn gray and dull it is usually because of old age and the end is near. The opposite...I have no idea. Sounds like a good thing to me.

My dog's right eye turn completely black. He is old like 10 years old. What could be wrong with him? We think it could be because the neighbors put something in his eye.

My Golden's brown eyes began to turn a cloudy, blue color when she was about 10yrs old. The vet couldn't explain it, took her to a dog ophthalmologist in St Louis and he diagnosed it as retinal edima (fluid behind the eyes). There is no treatment for the condition and she eventually became totally blind but lived to be 13.

Goldens are wonderful dogs! But sadly blindness is not uncommon when they get older :( same thing happened to my golden named Leo once he got older.

Sorry to hear about Leo. Goldens are truly special dogs. I also have a Standard Poodle and he became my Golden's "seeing eye dog." He would guide her down the hall, the steps, and around the yard, staying right at her side, touching her and keeping her on track. We didn't train him to do it, he just took upon himself. He always slept next to her, never left her side, and seemed to sense her insecurities after she lost her sight. They had a very sweet, special relationship and he mourned her death for months after she passed.

When the eyes turn grey is when you have to worry. I would not worry about them turning black.

I have a tiny chihuahua & her eyes are all black no color & they weep. Vet says it's normal but also said he wanted to wait to she gets older to say if some thing is wrong. could be cataracts, we know one of her paws is deformed do to inbreeding but the vet said she should have a normal life dispite her paw.
