<quoted text>Who are the investors in a community hospital? Have you heard of a DRG? What do hospitals get paid for on a DRG?
What does this have to do with it? Hospitals get paid for the treatment plan, not every single little sponge and needle. What's your point?

At SoutheastHEALTH I had to pay $10 each for a calcium pill and a folic acid pill - supplements which are not expensive over the counter. The nurse was informed that I was leaving and she insisted I take these along with a few other pills. Then another lady stepped up to proudly proclaim that these were not covered and I would have to pay out of pocket. Five months later I got a huge bill for five pills. What a racket!!!!!
Saint Francis did same thing my family memeber nurse say take home these pills, she had lots already at home. Then HUGE inflated bill from them on these pills she already have at home. Not seem honest!

The charge doesn't matter! It's the fee schedule that determines what they get paid. Which is about $.06 each.

I wish I could some how show you an itemized bill I received in the past from the hospital with all the charges on it. 9.00 for a Tylenol----haha that's cheap. How about 80.00 for an ear pick----which was thrown away. Plus, it won't do you any good to complain. It goes on and on and on. PS I think I'll go to Walmart and stock up on Tylenol and disposable ear syringes, and if I every have to go to the hospital I'll take them with me (and tell them just use these) haha. I'm sure that would work!!! NOT.

But none of these hospitals tip even though they make decent salaries. If you are a server or delivery driver.... dont expect much, if anything at all. I for one give them shitty service after multiple times of being stiffed.

All of this, we are paying for others that don't pay is bullsh!t. We ARE NOT paying for people who don't pay. We are paying the investors in the operation they share they were told they would get by investing in a hospital. Instead of eating the loss, which should come from profits, they screw the customer out of every penny because the investor needs another million this year! THEY own the hospital. THEY reap all the rewards. THEY should also figure in to the equation that some won't pay. THEY should not pass in THEIR bad business decision on to us. Investors are promised a certain rate or percentage for buying into an operation. THEY should get that percentage AFTER all deductions for overhead. Like salaries, overtime, insurance for the business and employees, electric bills, equipment expenses, and everything else. Praying on sick people for enormous profit is sickening. That's why government controlled and regulated healthcare is a must. Most of you are to dumb to know that president Nixon and his cronies came up with HMOs. It's all on his tape recordings!! Up until that point in history, nearly every American citizen could afford to go to the doctor. FOR ANYTHING! Surgeries to check ups!
You must one of the ones with no job and an Obama card!! Aren't you proud?

If you can buy 100 Tylenols for 8.77, imagine the price break SF gets on large volume through their buddy distributer. If you are taking a commodity that you pay a few cents for and charging your customer 60 or 70 or 30 dollars for each pill without a fee schedule what would a reasonable person call that practice in any other situation?

Hospitals have to charge those prices to compensate for the people who dont pay or Medicade wont pay for. The hospitals end up eating the majority of the costs for treatment all the time. If it wasnt for the high charges. They wouldnt be able to afford to keep their doors open..or pay anyone. Its not Pro Bono...it is a business afterall. If individuals, insurance, and medicaid even paid 75% of what a reasonal charge would be...the hospital would still be in the hole. Its healthcare on a federal level that makes it so expensive.

Exactly my point. They don't get paid foe every sponge, needle, or Tylenol. They get paid one set amount depending on the diagnosis. If you are admitted for a surgery that usually requires a two day stay and your end up needing four days the hospital still gets paid the same as for the two day stay.

It's not just the pills that are outrageous. If the Doctor puts in a order that you are to have ensures, or boost drinks, they charge you at least $8-10 a drink. It is cheaper to go to sams, or walmart and buy the product. If you don't drink what is delivered to you, you better make sure, it is sent back, and taken off your bill.

Okay I'm going to Taco Bell and order a 10,000 burrito, just because people somewhere can't pay for theirs. Crazy. BTW it's not a business it's a not for profit religious organization. Walk it like you talk it!
