This seems like a great deal. For $30 a month you get 1000 minutes, text, and some mobile web. I've looked at several reviews and the only complaint is about the phones being boring. I really don't care about having an iphone at that price. My question is how is the service? The guy at Walmart said they use everyone elses towers so the reception was good but I would like an honest review. Thanks in advance!

They have internet. It is $30 for 30MB of usage. I don't know how much that is but for $45 it is unlimited.

Well I ended up getting 2 of the Samsung slider phones and the $30/mo plan and I have to say I'm quite pleased. Here is a bit of a review for those who may be interested. In comparison to Verizon the service is about the same. I do seem to get better reception than I did with my LG Dare but that could just be the difference in the phones. As far as the phones go there are no bells and whistles to speak of. Texting is fast and easy but the camera isn't that great. Not bad, but not great. It is pretty easy to get used to. My only complaint is before you call anyone you will get a message saying how many minutes you have left. "You have 16 hours and 10 minutes left on this account" Or something like that. It doesn't take more than 5 sec. but it is a bit annoying. If you want a no frills phone without a contract and you don't use over 1000 text and 1000 min a month, I'd say this plan is hard to beat.

I have one and I like it. I make several trips out of town and I really like my reception. Sometimes I get texts that are a lot of crazy symbols, but I can deal with that. I get the $45 dollar plan and that is unlimited everything and I mean everything for one month. I don't have to hear that recording about how much I have left. I just make my call and it goes through like a contract phone. I check my yahoo, facebook, and myspace pages all from my phone. I also receive IMs from yahoo. I am so glad that I got my Straightalk phone. I have officially been liberated from the contract phone. I urge everyone to at least give it a try. It is really worth it, To me, anyway.

I bought the new Straight Talk phone at Wal-mart while it was still on trial and I love it; Iím saving over $50 per month on what I used to pay on contract and that wasnít unlimited everything. The reception is better as well because they are on Verizonís network nationwide so there are no extra charges like roaming or long distance

I also got the Samsung slider phone and the $30 a month plan and I love it. For the $30 I get 1000 minutes and 1000 texts, which is plenty for me. The reception is good and I am so happy to be free of the phone contracts. I am very pleased with this deal.

Everyone -
The reason that Straight Talk is "as good" as Verizon is because they only use Verizon for this particular service.
They are reputable and not a "fly by night" company. FYI - Straight Talk is a division of Tracfone Wireless (just like how Net10 is), which is owned by billionaire Carlos Slim out of Mexico. For those who do not know who he is - Carlos is the 3rd richest person in the world after Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.
The other Tracfone services may use other carriers, but, again, Straight Talk only uses Verizon.
If you call Straight Talk customer service they will verify this for you. 1-877-430-CELL (2355)

Straight Talk is a great deal that is personally helping me save more than $50 a month - that's more than $600 a year. The ST unlimited use $45 plan will potentially save more than $1,200 over the next two years and I dont have to worry about contracts or pages of monthly bills. The Straight Talk Verizon network is very strong and my calling area is huge - I dont worry about dropping calls anymore. Even their phones are well priced with a good variety - I was able to carry over my phone number as well. Straight Talk is a new and growing company with lots of potential - Walmart is getting it right with Straight Talk.

How great is it that Straight Talk uses the Verizon network? Not only does this plan get the best coverage, but is saving it's customers over $500 a year! I use the $45 unlimited texts and calls plan which is perfect for me. This is the best prepaid plan around hands down (and is saving me TONS of extra $$$)!

Virgin is a good alternative as well. Buy a phone ( I know Best Buy carries them, or you can order them as well) They have a $25 plan that is 300 minutes, unlimited text and internet, no contract no checks. No goofy 'you have x minutes' left messages and so on.

Oh, just notice that Straight Talk is part of Tracfone. Tracfone has traditionally been just about the most expensive prepaid phone co's around. I had one of those years ago and was never satisfied with them.
Also, on the subject of Pre-Paid, I got my daughter her first phone as a prepaid, a Verizon, and it broke within a couple of weeks. I called them and they said 'yes, it's a bad design, they fail this way all the time, just give me your info and we'll send you a new one. Oh... you are a PrePaid customer. Hang on, I have to transfer you...

Next guy on the line:

Your phone broke? Did ya drop it? Sorry, you have to just buy a new one. As rude as the first guy was nice. Pre-paid = second class citizen to Verizon. Avoid.

I love my straight talk no contract phone! Lately, though it doesn't tell me how many minutes I have left. I use the automatic refill plan. Does anyone know why I don't get a recording with the number of minutes left?
