In, my opinion, churches shouldn't be begging for money when they pay the preacher $70,000 a year and three or four of his friends $45,000 a year. I don't think preachers should live in poverty, of course, but I do think that if they want to shit in high cotton, they ought to be working a full-time 40 hour a week job. I was wondering how others felt about this subject.

I've never been in a church that "begged" for money. I've also never known a preacher that only worked 40 hours.

You'd be surprised at all of the work a preacher has to do. And where did you get that they make $70,000?

In any case, no, I don't think a preacher should make that much money. Then again, I'm not a christian, so sermons have no real worth to me at all.

I've never seen them beg for money either. Offering plate, sure. But that's not begging. It's tradition.

Maybe you should do as the old indian saying says. Walk a mile in their moccasins. 70,000 isn't much money when your on call 24/7 365. My dad pastored for over 40 years and never did even come close to 70K. His retirement from them is 600 a month.

The was an article in the Missourian a couple of years ago that reported the Pastor of Cape First owned either the most expensive or the second most expensive home in Cape Girardeau County. There is a lot of money to be made serving the Lord.

If I wanted to make a lot of money, I would become a religious huckster. Some of them do not even believe what they preach, nor do they live it.

Gary Brothers. He is a truly rotten gangster. People like him make me wish there was a hell.

Go to the Missourian and have the librarian pull it out of the archives, or go to the county assessors office and ask for the records like the paper did. You might ask members, I'm sure they haven't forgotten it.

Yeah, but how do you know that preaching is where the money came from? Maybe he had an inheritance or a previous occupation? I've heard his name before but I don't know anything about him.

Just as I figured you have no proof. If you make an accusation it's YOUR job to prove it.

Have to admit I was mistaken. The property came in at #10 in the county,$812,956. Story written by Rudi Keller on Monday, August 6th, 2007 titled; "Assessed Proerty Tops $1B". My memory isn't as good as it used to be. Ain't bad!

That was even three years ago. Wonder where it ranks now. I can thank of at least two homes that are at least close to 1M homes. The one between Jackson and Gordonville on 25 and the home between dutchtown and whitewater on the north side of route A. I seriously doubt you'll ever see my name on that last. I will take you up on that some day and drive out to take a look see. Have a great weekend.

Most people I know would be thrilled to have their home on the Top Ten List, but in this case, I wonder if 11th place would have been better.

LOL I kind of think your right. Back in the day when I was in the car business I heard a saying. The two things people lie about. How much they give for their house and how little then give for their car.

OK! go to the Southeast Missourian webpage, and in the upper right corner is the "Search" box. Type in; Gary and Rose Brothers. The first article to pop up will be entitled; "Assessed property reaches $1B. The Brothers property is listed as the 10th most valuable residence in Cape Girardeau County.

God never in scripture said that Christians couldn't be wealthy. He just wants us to be 'stewards' of whatever money we have. I will say it's prob not smart to be a pastor and have one of the top ten nicest homes in the area due to criticism and people who are bibically uneducated....but there is nothing sinful about a Christian being well off.
