I'm looking for really good food that is not too terribly expensive. However, I will pay the money for something special!

May check out www.capeeats.com - the site hasn't been real active lately, but it has a lot of local restaurant reviews.

Port cape has the best pulled pork/beef I've ever eaten-even learned to eat it with slaw on it. Great entertainment, also.

Also, what about "Throwed Rolls" in Sikeston or Schiendlers Tavern?

Marquette Rest & Bar was amazing the last time I had it and the cost was very suprisingly low compared to Mollies or New Orleans. Its more casual also. The atmosphere and that old hotel building are quite impressive!

Our family loved Bella Italia. We just went there and to our suprise the prices went up about $3.50-$4.00 per entree. As a family of five, we could go there once a week for a nice family lunch after church. Not now, too Much for us!!!
Sad.

You were right about the Marquette! It was such a neat place and the food was awesome and not that expensive. That is the best selection of beer in the area!

Bella Italia served me very bitter eggplant (age causes bitterness). When I complained the waitress offered me something else so I have minestrone. BUT I was billed for BOTH! I asked and was told it is their "policy".... so I don't go there anymore!

Unfortunate to hear that feedback about Bella Italia. Have never eaten there, but have always kept it on the list as a 'place to try' whenever the urge hits to eat 'upscale'- now, not so sure.

Unhappy customers are never a desirable part of anyone's successful business plan, well, except for certain land developers - but I'll spare this post from that entire rant. At any rate, word-of-mouth is the strongest advertising of any business, for better or for worse.

It would be interesting to understand the proprietor's supporting argument towards implementing such a 'policy' as described.

My husband and I always stop at Broussard's or Paiglia's in Cape. (Not sure if they are spelled right.) Broussard's is a cajan/creole restaurant and a little pricey but GREAT food. The other is a little Italian restaurant with that small town feel.
