Good Evening,
I have a friend who is going to have to have that done very soon.
Which hospital does the best job?
Which hospital Nationwide is the best at implanting clamps in the back? Or breaking the spine and deadening some nerves to ease the pain?:-(
Thank you for your sincere advice.

I work for Dr. Hayward neurosurgeon at Heartland Spine. He is the chief neurosurgeon at Saint Francis Medical Center. I suggest seeing him. Take a look at our website and listen to the patient interviews. His patients love him because he is conservative and he actually sits down and informs his patients of all the pros and cons of surgery.

Dr. Hayward is the only one I know of in the area to get the Patients' Choice Award 2 years in a row now.

I went to St. Louis. Very happy. But, I really did not need the surgery, I found out.

Go to STL. There really aren't any good nuerosurgeons in this area. Do the research and you'll see. I think you can go to healthgrades.com . and see the ratings. If I were going to have surgery here I would go to Dr. Tolentino. He's the best in this area.

First of all my disclaimer, I work at the Brain & NeuroSpine Clinic of Missouri.
Having said that, I have to disagree strongly with the "guest" entry from St. Louis. We have several very good neurosurgeons here at our clinic. They all take very conservative approaches and when/if surgery is required they are very skilled. They also are the only neurosurgeons in Cape that have operating/hospital priviledges at both hospitals (so the patient has a choice if they prefer one hospital location over the other).
I am involved in videoing patient testimonials and I know for a fact that bigger does not always mean better. Several patients started their care in St. Louis and ended up coming to our clinic and swear hands down they got better care here in our clinic. I am sure it really depends on who you see in St. Louis.
Also one of our neurosurgeons has been voted Patients Choice two years in a row and another of our neurosurgeons received the Heartlands Best Medical Professional award on KFVS 12 just recently. You can see all this for yourself and even "virtually" meet our physicians on our website:

Hope this helps as you make your search for quality care.

Go to St. Louis, cheaper and better..........don't you wonder about all the millionare homes? Don't you wonder why all these doctors want to come to Cape to practice? Cape is the moneymaking capital when it comes to medical services.

Has anyone had surgery for herniated discs in which they remove part of the disc? I'm not sure what the rest of the procedure is but just know that this one is suppose to be a same day surgery and a much smaller incision than the older back surgeries for herniated discs. I'm trying to decide whether to go this route and was just wondering if anyone else had had this type of surgery and what kind of results they had had...
