I hit a pot hole last week and noticed that oil was slowly leaking under my car just shortly after the incident. I called Bothels in Cape Elizabeth and they asked if I could stop by to have an oil dye added to help trace the leak. That was done and the car was dropped off at 8:45 the next day. Wondering what was happening; I called at 3pm and was told my car entering the garage. At 4pm I haven't heard anything and called and was told that my car was set,$72 a warn gasket around the oil bolt. Great! A day later the car continued to leak so I jacked the car and removed the plastic oil pan shield and found an obvious crack in the pan. I took the car back to Bothels and showed them the oil pan (now that the plastic was off). It was clear where the leak was. I asked the garage manager what they were going to do and he asked when I would make another appointment. Because they had my car for 7 hours, charged me $72 and didn't even inspect my oil pan made me not want to continue with this garage. I asked for my money back and he refused saying they fixed the oil leak that they saw. They never even removed the plastic shield to expose the oil pan. It pops off! They said that they don't do anymore costly tests than needed if they see the problem. Is removing the plastic shielding a costly test? Would you see a Dr who didn’t removed your shirt when you complained of chest pain? They said that they traced the leak to the bolt gasket and replaced it. The entire oil pan is encased in a plastic guard except one spot where the bolt sticks out. They said that there was no expected damage to the plastic shield and therefore assumed the oil pan was intact. I'm no mechanic but an aluminum oil pan can crack pretty easily with a good impact while plastic can flex. Then one said "why don't you do what everyone else does and just bring the car back if it still leaks." The manager then turned away and walked over to his computer and ignored me. Essentially I paid $72 to replace a washer.
