Ignorant and unfounded?

The guy had prior drug charges and pulled completely off the street and behind a dark, secluded building when he was pulled over for suspicious behavior.

If he had nothing to hide, or no hidden agenda, WHY didn't he just pull over on San Carlos Blvd. like anyone else would have? He went completely out of the way to pull back there. Or he could have even pulled into the FRONT parkinglot.

If he was being stopped for acting suspicious, pulling back there only gave the cop more reason to think something was up.

I think the people posting from Ohio might just be the ignorant, uninformed ones.

You all have the right to your opinions to say he was a great guy from what you knew of him, but this is a public forum and EVERYONE has the right to express their thoughts, even if you don't agree with them.

1st off anyone losing their life is always something sad, not only for friends but also family....In this world however, it happends all to often...

While im sure the gentlemen was a great friend, a loved family memeber its safe to assume he had a drug problem. Past behavior usually predicts future behavior..

Some things might not ever be known to the full extent. Not all Lee County Sheriffs Office patrol cars have dash cams...If it does it would really settle any doubts people have.

Now a cop's frame of mind , is safety at all cost, after all its either you the officer or the bad guy going home at the end of the night....Cops are trained to shoot to kill not wound a suspect. Only thing that would make sense to me atleast is the cop seen a weapon and training kicked it right away and he did what he had to do. As stated before he will have to live with this the rest of his life, knowing he did kill someone or be killed, or what he could of done differently etc. Im not sure many people responding to this post ever shot a gun let a long had to shot at someone..

This suspected that died surely didnt have a clean criminal record which would cast doubt..

Sooner or later the facts will come out. Im leaning more towards the officer doing his job correctly however, well cause of the guys past, also cops dont usually go shooting people for no given reason...not saying it doesnt happend however..but everyone has opinions..

On that note...I think its safe to say this is a pure tragedy. Either way you look at it, its happend. Whats done is done...

He was probably planning on ambushing the police officer. I'm glad it backfired.

Itís not unusual for a death investigation involving law enforcement to take several weeks. I have heard a lot of rumors, but most of it still speculative. I have certainly heard enough to know that there was a lot more going on than a routine traffic stop: obviously. I still encourage authorities to have it reviewed by an outside agency. One rumor that has persisted is that the deputy who was involved int he shooting, was the deputy who had arrested him a few weeks prior. Those charges were dropped a few days before the shooting. So far, nothing has been confirmed, and everyone has to be patient.

from florida crime courts page. guess the sheriffs dept. forgot to mention the dropped charges, huh? same deputy ? how can anyone believe the lcsd and the mis info campaign ?

Well its said the suspect had an ak47 and ski mask and handcuffs and zip ties as well as alot of ammo...Lee county isnt a big city so for the same cop to run into this guy several times isnt uncommon, specially if he knows what your driving in his work beat, and prior history given with that officer.

I think the cop did his job...you dont point a ak47 at a cop and expect not to die

why should any one believe the info released by the sheriffs dept ? did he really have an ak-47 or point it at a cop ? did he get out ? did he pull his car to where the cop told him ? the lcsd is shady at least ! was this a set up ? a way to silence some one ? a recent article pointed to connections with a shady store and the lcsd, and more ! multiple deputies seen spending alot of time at said store whose owner is suspected of , any way read the paper, look at all sides before you convict or pass judgement ![ charges were dropped- no evidence to support an arrest ] where did unnamed get several times ? just make that up to support your judgement ?

The Lee sheriff's office had its share of problems in recent years. According to the National Police Misconduct Reporting Project , in 2010 the department had the highest rate of reported misconduct in the country among police agencies its size (500-999 officers).

It's pretty hard to tell who has a heart condition and who doesn't just by looking at someone.
Are you saying that all mentally ill people don't have to abide by the law?
It's very hard to a mental condition from someone who is blasted out of their mind on drugs and in Lee County these days, that goes for at least 1/2 the population. Not to mention, a good deal of the mentally ill ARE on drugs too making it a bad combination.
If someone is completely out of control, they're going to be tazed or maced to try to gain some conformity.
The guy was drunk, disorderly and tresspassing. I guess they should have just left him alone.
It was probably his drunkenness that was getting him into trouble, not his mental condition. What kind of mental condition was it anyway?
Unbelievable that a woman was just granted 4 MILLION dollars. She said she is "very satisfied". I bet she is! Which would you rather have a few million dollars, or a drunken, beligerent, mentally disturbed husband?

FORT MYERS, FL -
A man shot to death by a deputy in south Fort Myers last month had a loaded AK-47, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and other unusual items in his vehicle, according to Sheriff Mike Scott.

Tommy Kollman, 48, of Fort Myers, was killed off San Carlos Boulevard, just south of Kelly Road, early the morning of December 15th.

Kollman was pulled over by a deputy around 3:30 a.m. and pulled his vehicle into a parking lot behind an ice cream shop.

The sheriff's office said Kollman was armed with the AK-47 and pointed it at the deputy. Shots were fired and Kollman was killed.

The 9-1-1 call about the incident was released on January 3rd, where a scared resident described bullets hitting and going into his home.

The deputy was not injured in the incident and is on paid administrative leave.

In addition to the 560 rounds of ammunition, the sheriff says Kollman had a ski mask, gloves, handcuffs and zip ties in his vehicle.

Friends say Kollman was well known on Fort Myers Beach, where he played in bands and bartended in various restaurants.

The sheriff's office said once their investigation is complete they'll turn it over to the state attorney's office for further investigation.

I was responding to the previous post before mine about the same cop possibly running into the guy several times...

I for one think its good to question what any authority figure say's or releases to the press.

Heck there's radio tranmissions of cops planning to burn down the cabin former officer chris dorner was in...So to think they made it up is'nt far beyond reach...

Who knows maybe the L.C.S.O did make it up or plant evidence...

I think the question more less is like previously stated by another poster was did he actually get out of the jeep with the gun ? did he actually point it at the officer?

Rather was he a previous felon? If so, if he did have a ak47 did he really want to get charged being a felon in tow of a firearm?

Why is'nt F.D.L.E investigating it already?

Any incident will create more questions than answers..

Not one of us was there, but assuming that what the press has released is true and can be proven to be facts, then I believe the officer did what he had to do, which was go home..

As far as the drunken guy who was killed while in jail and restrained, thats obviously a tragedy. Just like this story....

No one is ever gonna know what really happened.
Everyone who knew the 'good' Tom, is always gonna think he was innocent and everyone who didn't know him is gonna side with the cops. Y'all can argue about it all day, but it's never gonna be solved.
