Hi I am not trying to start drama or anything on here but I am just curious about the man that is always on the street bench in front of the Jaguar dealership on 520. I see him every day and feel so sorry for him. I have heard a few different stories and just wondered what the actual story was. He is NEVER out asking for food or money just keeping to himself. If you know anything about him please let me know. The story I heard was extremely sad and I would love to just talk to him if thats the case. Please dont make this a hate post or bashing post. Just wanna make sure the guy is ok!! Everyone needs someone in their life!!

If its the guy that's been around for a long time, I think people call him "lighter bum". These kids made a MySpace page for him long ago. He's paranoid delusional along with out mental issues. He has money, and has been robbed and beat up by punk ass kids numerous times. He spends his money on cigarettes, and writes " interesting to say the least" designs and the same numbers over and over again, on the blank inside of cigarette cartons. He was a truck driver long ago, from what an old probation officer that knew him, told me. The man might be a modern day Job, and talk to God for all us in society know. I keen that whole heartedly, and nothing makes me more sick, than to drive by him when I use to live there and see cops harassing the poor soul

we have always called him later man or helmet man. I remember him when I was about 7 years old that be in 21 years ago when he was a very young very handsome still homeless man. my mom has always told me that he lost his wife and children in a car accident but that he has money. I know you is delusional anyways I see him often saluting it and marching as if he's in the war. I have always wondered what his true story is.

Oh, that is soooo sad! It is just a shame that in our society some way we can't help the mentally disturbed homeless people who are helpless really because their condition renders them incapable of caring for themselves. They are like lost children in adult bodies. In my community there is one young man I always see on the streets. It is plain that he has a mental illness. Last summer we had temps over 100 and one day I saw him just circling around blocks. The poor homeless people and the conditions they must endure to survive. I don't think I would make it a month living they must do. It is a shame on all of the rest of us that we don't find a way to help them, as most people just ignore them or even harass and look down on them. They were all somebody's baby, with a Mama full of hope for their lives. Very sad....

Something you're forgetting is that a lot of them choose to live as they do. Some of them lost their homes 30 years ago when educated people filed lawsuits and campaigned against depriving the mentally impaired of their freedom by institutionalizing them.

There was a young homeless man staying on an empty lot next to Gregory's on A1A Cocoa Beach. He was living under a tree - the worst of circumstances. I often stopped to drop off food/money/say hello. He's gone and I haven't seen him for a few months. Does anyone know what happened to him. He obviously had some mental health issues and I was curious how someone so young could be so alone, no family, no friends and no help. Truly sad.

I think I have found the person you are inquiring about. I saw this man for years on MI he wore coats year round it seems. He moved over the Cocoa area and now he sleeps nightly at a Bus Stop in front of my home in Rockledge. My children first saw him one morning as they were walking the dog. They came in to tell me that a homeless person was asleep on the bench at the bus stop and wanted to know if they could take him some food. I allowed them to fix him a care package. He has been in the in area for a few months now and I have been feeding him daily Breakfast and dinner. Others in the area give him things to eat as well. I make sure he has Gatorade and water because the recent temps have been extreme. He is completely harmless and bothers no one at all. The only thing he has ever asked for was a pen because he writes a lot and his pen gave out of ink.

His name is John. His mother lives in Diana Shores on MI. He has access to money from his family. He does have mental disabilities and chooses his life style. I was very surprised to learn from a neighbor of his mother is that he is only 49 years old. His b-day is August 1966. I guess a life on the street can age you.

Thanks for the update. John (aka Uncle Jimmy to my kids) has moved out West Cocoa. We went on vacation during the Christmas Holidays and I made arrangements with some friends to make sure he continued to get food and care packages while we were gone. Well he moved and my sister saw him as she was heading to Orlando. He's been on 520 West since Jan 2015 now. Glad to know he has family. Yes,he writes a lot and often gave me notes to deliver to Gen. Sutton on Peachtree St. I know there is a facility on Peachtree St in Cocoa for Vets but never heard of any Staff member by the last name of Sutton. I did however Google the name and there is a Ret. Gen. Sutton that is a Psychologist in a Branch of the Military, she treated military personnel with mental disorders and also has written a few books. John also likes to read. If I didn't know any better based on my conversations with him I would think he was a POW. He does not talk to everyone he's very selective on who he converses with. I worry about him because he has lost weight over time he really needs to be seen by a very good compassionate doctor.
