Is there any information about what kind of notification they are going to be sending parents? I want to make sure my kids DO NOT get the vaccine.

Haven't heard, this was just posted on the health dept. website this morning. I'm sure soon the schools will send out info.

We went out to Algonac for the vaccine. We did not have to wait, they did a nice job. So far none of the kids have had any kind of reaction. I will post any side effects if any pop up. This was a tough decision but I really feel like we did the right thing.

thanks for the info and keeping us informed. My kids will also be getting it! |

It has been 3 days since my family received the swine flu vaccination. Kids are 16, 14 and 6 years old, they have had no reactions and are feeling great. Also 3 adults in my extended family got their shots a week ago in Oakland County due to being in high risk groups, they all are feeling fine and have no reactions. I plan on getting my husband and myself a shot as soon as they say there is enough for everyone to start being vaccinated.

Even though no one in my family will be getting the shot, I'm not opposed to the vaccine itself. I just want to know if they were going to be notifying parents to make sure they are not vaccinating my kids without my consent.
My kids have had severe adverse reactions to other vaccines and so they will not be getting this one or any other one for that matter. I just wish they would screen children for conditions that would be flags for reactions, such as an egg allergy. Since that is what many vaccines, including the flu shots, are incubated in, an egg allergy would be a marker to look out for. Since it also contains the mercury additive of thimerasol if packaged as a multi-dose shot, I would recommend those with any 'flags' be given either the nasal version or a single-dose version which do not have thimerasol. |

I am concerned with the mist because it is a live virus. The 1976 vaccine mess was caused by a live virus. Just wanted to add my kids Doctor has ordered thimerisol free vaccine and should have it by next week. I did not want to wait but am hoping my youngest who needs two vaccines can get his second thimerisol free. I understand your concerns with vaccines, I have them as well and my kids are not fully vaccinated according to the CDC recomendations. I just don't want to take any chances with the swine flu especially given the risk it could mutate and become even more deadly. I am hoping the vaccine will give some immunity if that does happen. This particular bug is not behaving like a normal flu at all. |

Got the nose mist today in Memphis, wife and 2 kids got the shots. To "detroit" Macomb county started a similar school distribution (for the kids durring the day 1-3ish and for the public 4-8ish) but i know Richmond was taken off the list for now due to shortage. But any Macomb resident can go to any Macomb location. The kids WILL bring home an opt-in/opt-out form before they are given anything at school. I TEACH IN Macomb but I live in St. Clair County.

Yeah, we have been seeing her on the news alot. She had a rare reaction to the regular seasonal flu vaccine. this is what scares me and this article was from October 10th, the number has increased since then..... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091010/ap_on_he_... |
I heard on the raido that it has been really bad in the Western part of the state, there were two deaths last week and several more deaths are being investigated as probable swine flu cases. They said it is moving this way now and we can expect to see outbreaks at the schools like they have been seeing on the west side of the state. |
What scares me about getting the vaccines is that my kid had a seizure shortly after his shots (not the flu shot) and stopped talking for several years. So now I won't let any of my kids get any more vaccines. |
And then articles like this make me question how reliable the information we are getting is.
http://wcbstv.com/local/swine.flu.nyc.2.12811... Only part of the article... "New York City's Health Department is investigating how two schoolchildren got swine flu vaccinations without their parents' consent. The Health Department says neither child suffered ill effects, but it is taking measures to prevent future mistakes. In Brooklyn, Naomi Troy says her daughter, Nikiyah Torres-Pierre, was taken to a hospital with a possible allergic reaction after getting the shot. Troy told the Daily News she had not consented because she'd been waiting for advice from Nikiyah's doctor. The 6-year-old has epilepsy. A teacher apparently sent the wrong girl to the Health Department nurse, who didn't double-check the name. The department says the vaccine is safe for children with epilepsy." In one sentence the Health Department says 'neither child suffered ill effects.' Then in the next it says one of the children were taken to the hospital from an allergic reaction. |

My nephew had siezures after the DTP. It was really scary. He is 19 now and opted to get the swine flu vaccine (he has asthma too). I do believe he got other vaccines, just not the DTP after the reaction because they thought it was the live P prtion of that accine that was causing so many reactions. I fully respect your right not to vaccinate, I find vaccinations scary as hell and did not take this decision lightly. I've read a great deal about the 1918 flu pandemic and I just feel that the vaccine is worth the risk for this one, but my child has never had a bad reaction to anything expect too many cookies on Christmas, that made my decision a little easier because the chances of him reacting to a flu vaccine were minute. |
We don't know which shot he had the reaction to as he got more than one on that visit. On of them was the DTP. It is good to know that your nephew got the flu vaccine with no problems. I'm sure the vaccine is probably safe for the majority of people. I just wish there were some screening tools in place that would help with the decision. It is such a nerve-racking decision when there are just so many unknowns. And to be quite frank, I just don't trust that the government will be fully honest even if they know there is a risk based on their history of not admitting to things like that. I would like my kids to get the vaccine, but just can't trust the information being handed out.
Hmm, maybe you should keep your kid's home on the day they are vaccinating at their school, that's the only way to be 100% sure that nobody will screw up. After reading that, I'm going to keep my kid's home because I don't want them to get a second dose. |
Hopefully they'll be enough of the shots by the time it gets to the Capac schools. There are many in line that aren't "high risk" but still getting the shots.
Actually, I think it is really silly for them to be holding back vaccines that could be given to people today for people who might want them two weeks or a month from now when a clinic knocks on their front door. There is plenty of vaccine out there right now in this state,in this county, you just have to go to it instead of waiting for it to come to you. I'm a little miffed because my husband and I waited and now he is sick (looks like just a cold but who knows?) There are vials of vaccine sitting there unused with more coming in every day, I wish we would have just gotten our vaccine as well, it makes no sense to be holding onto any vaccine right now. |
