Commissioners' Court Seeks To Silence Newspaper; Larry Horton...

“Wentworth was once an avid supporter of open government and now he has done a flip-flop”

Larry Horton (D) is a candidate for Comal County Commissioner, Pct. 1, and he was the first to come out and condemn action of Commissioners' Court last week that seeks to limit this newspaper's ability to obtain information through the Public Information Act.

"This morning, Thursday Jan. 10, 2008," said Horton, "the Comal County Commissioners' Court passed Order No. 165 setting a time limit of 36 hours per year for time  spent on public information requests. The order would limit the time  spent on the requests of individuals as well as commercial entities. The  rationale is that the Court considers the requests of one individual to be excessive and without merit." Read more

Douglas Kirk obviously acted out of anger in an "I'll show you!" childish temper tantrum. BUT EVEN WORSE are our officials, elected to office (such as Jeff Wentworth) who have violated one of our most precious rights as Americans.

Our county commissioners are eager to raise taxes and spend taxpayer income, and apparently believe they have found a way to hide their actions under more superflous, unnecessary laws. To "punish" or "get even" with one, our commissioners have punished us all. The forget they are there to SERVE the citizens. Not all commisioners fall into this category, but too many have forgotten why they were elected to SERVE in the first place.
