My Fellow El Pasoans,

First of all, I want to tell you I am not going to trash my city with yard signs.

I am a small businessman. I never planned to run for city council, but when our economy stalled and I read how city hall is spending our money, lack of services and high permit fees.... I thought I could help.

As an insurance expert, I have spent my career balancing budgets and helping El Pasoans save money in insuring their prized possessions. And as a conservative I think when our families are cutting back, government should cut back too.

Most El Pasoans are taxed by over 5 taxing entities. A tax increase is not on my agenda. Neither is creating a new one for public parks.

We need to make the environment at city hall, more business and citizen friendly, a public service place. I will push in that direction. We need a city government that we can go to for legitimate help. And let’s get back to city hall staying open 5 days a week. You work 5 days a week, our public servants should too.

During our recent winter storm we were an unprepared city. Our city was literally crippled. Our frail and elderly had no guidance.

There are lessons to be learned. During an emergency, you don't obligate people whose homes are either flooding or without water to first pull a permit before they attempt repairs. That's a no-brainer. I will work hard toward fixing our errors and inefficiencies.

We need a city government that believes in traditional family values.

I am not a West-Side transplant. I was born and raised here. I am a product of our educational system having attended Morehead, a graduate of Coronado high school and a proud graduate of our hometown university, UTEP.

In this unpredictable economy, El Paso faces many challenges ahead.

If you think its time to put City Hall on a fixed income, I'd appreciate your vote.

I have the energy, enthusiasm & commitment to truly represent the citizens of District 1.

Please visit my website, www.abepeinado.com . Thank you.

Sincerely,

Abe Peinado

The reason the people have not really started to vote is the Newspaper and the Television News department have been miserly in getting all the information out on the candidates and really interviewing them critically to determine their stands. There is also the fact the lack of campaigning by the candidates in the open themselves. There has only been one person in the various races that have taken the time to go door to door and introduce themselves to the public. The last time I saw a candidate actually come by my neighborhood was when COBOS was running for the last time int he city elections.

I'm sitting this one out because there is nothing on which to vote here in my precinct. My worthless city rep isn't up for re-election (unfortunately) and my school board rep still has 2 years to go.

I also blame the media for not alerting the electorate, or informing us. At the very least Times should print sample ballots and brief sketch of each candidate at ONE time, not drip-drabbed through multiple weeks.

Now you see how easy it is to buy a seat in these local elections, very few people take any of this seriously until it's over and then complain like there is no tomorrow. sad indeed.

District 1 candidates will be on a KVIA Channel 7 forum at 8 am tomorrow morning.

Probably the only tv station that devotes extra time to the elections.

Are you all serious???? Stop expecting everyone else to take care of you and do your research. They need to do away with early voting. It costs the taxpayers too much. There is no reason people cannot vote on the regular election day.

Abe, use some place else to do your campaigning, please.

Im definitely watching the forum! Hopefully they play it in its entirety, and not edit it to favor one particular candidate.

Totally agree, do away with early voting. A waste of time and money.

They dont even vote on the last day, so whyy would you expect them to vote early?

They dont vote and then complain forever. This why EP is so corrupt.

I predict the low voter turnout might work to Sonia Brown's benefit. Get ready for some interesting city council meetings, El Paso.

And to my fellow Eastside voters, please vote NO to the SISD bond election.

I'll vote for anyone who will work for lower taxes. Our tax rates are ridiculous.

It was only this year

When dozens of politicians from the democratic party

Were indicted in federal court by the FBI.

Then they were found guilty for bribery, stealing taxpayer money,

And giving county jobs to their political friends.

It was only recently when the Rich and Wealthy democrats

Were using their elected position to get government Contracts

Worth Millions of Dollars.

To give to their political donors and rich business friends,

And to family members.

Democrats are always putting down the other political party.

When they themselves were found guilty of doing the Same thing.

And Then they have the balls to tell You to Your Face

That they are for the poor and for the elderly.

Bull. They are so full of It.

Nothing but HYPOCRITS.

Take a look in the Mirror before you start Pointing Fingers.

I say do away with elections altogether. They should just stop patronizing us and have some sort of game show where whichever corporate interest bets the most money in a poker game can anoint whoever they like to office. Then get all the registered voters and have both sides fight battle royale fight to the death. That would be a lot more entertaining, if not more productive.

Why do some of these people
Who are running for Office
Think that They can use Our money
As their own personal bank account.
It's NOT.
That's Our money that we Elpasoans work Hard for
And bust our butts for
To pay for our taxes every year.
Stop raising Our Taxes.
Stop creating more Social Programs and Ideas
That We Elpasoans Cannot Afford to pay for.
Stop trying to find new ways to Spend our Money Away
Instead shutdown the programs that We No Longer Need
You Know the Ones started in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
Then lets Start Saving our money for when We have
An emergency.

You know, for when for some reason Our Electricity
And Water gets shut Off for three Days in Freezing
Temperatures. And our Mayor, Mr. COOK refuses to
Come Back to help Coordinate an emergency plan.

Although the city elections are non partisan. We do not need progressive democrats on city council, expecially one that owes over $190,000.00 to the IRS.

All that info was in the 10-page Voter Guide section the Times published in its May 1 edition.
