Sport-bike racing: Assault on our roadways

There are 73 comments on the El Paso Times story from Apr 6, 2009, titled Sport-bike racing: Assault on our roadways. In it, El Paso Times reports that:

Sport-bike racing on El Paso roadways has surpassed the regular definition of "dangerous." It's to the point that daredevils on bikes nicknamed "crotch rockets" are an assault upon others on the roads.

Seriously, who has time to write crap like this? Are you trying out for a position at "Fox News"? Indict an entire group by the actions of a few? Oh yeah, exclude the "Harley Riders" and such. Next time you can write an article how biker gangs, i.e. "Harley Riders" are running drugs, prostitution, murder etc.(Sarcasm) I only comment on this stupid attempt at attention because unfortunately, there will be a few who are steered to believe this crap without looking at the big picture. Most "crotch rocket" guys are people like myself, 35 years old, family driven professionals who enjoy riding. I take my racing to the track or I get my speed fix dirt bike riding.

Damn, El Paso times, I know you've been known to put out some crap, and I've generally over looked it, but now, you've taken the cake. Enjoy all the anger and resentment you are trying to create, dumb @$$ es!!

Yet another poorly written editorial by the Times. That being said, I do agree that some "crotch rocket" owners are a menace to the roadways. Several times I see riders popping wheelies, weaving in and out of traffic, and just goofing around on the road. I do my best to be aware of motorcycles and give them plenty room whenever I can. I will not, however, endanger my family by trying to a avoid an irresponsible motorcyclist.

WHAT A BUNCH OF CRAP! Who wrote this? To say that only Harley riders are safe and law-abiding is to say that fat people never commit crimes. Hey EPT morons, have you ever heard of the Bandidios or the Hell's Angels? Guess what their bike of choice is. That's right, HARLEY'S! These bike gangs are alive and well in West Texas and pretend to be good citizens in these toy drives. Oh yeah, they are the epitome of civility, except when they are terrorizing innocent people and dealing drugs, whores, and murdering each other. Are you guys serious!?

I have ridden these so-called "crotch rockets" for over 30 years and have always been a responsible rider. Never did I get a traffic ticket, even when I had my RZ1! What a stupid, stupid article. These morons at EPT need to get their heads out of their tuchis and stop writing about stuff they have no idea about. Idiots.

I have read the article, and the comments. What I have learned is that there are a lot of people out there that have now been put on the defensive because of the careless actions of a few. This is nothing new. The people that were involved in the crotch rocket crashes recently acted recklessly, and have done a major disservice to all bikers/motorcyclists. Don't blame the person that wrote this article, that was just a normal reaction to bundle people into one group. It's what people do when they don't know any better. Don't blame all crotch rocket riders, either. Most people that ride motorcycles are responsible, law abiding citizens. It's the ones that do something stupid that ruin it for the rest of us. Rather, put the blame where it is due. Put it on the individuals that have acted like idiots and screwed it up for the rest of us.

I almost bacame a victim of a group of these race bike riders. They were attempting to slow down the flow of traffic on I-10 by forming a line of bikes in front of me. I past by them only to enrage them. Their response was to encircle my car and throw verbal and signaling insults at me.
They were lucky that I'm an easy-going kind of person. Had they comfronted a more violent, or even a person with less driving skills, they could easily had become a victim by being pushed and maybe even killed by my car.
Anyway, I have two brothers who responsibly ride bikes, but have absolute contempt for these irresponsible immature show-offs. My advice to them is: if you want to die on the road, do it on a road designed for professionals where you are out of the reach of inocent drivers. Think.

Statistically, more riders die on cruiser-type motorcycles every year in America than on sportbikes -- over half of them alcohol-related. Your emotional appeal to fear is wasted on the wrong demographic.

Your tone is one that sparks the idea that tyranny through majority rule is justified, and that sportbikes should be made illegal. That's a collectivist, uninformed position. Most sportbikers are respectable and responsible, the last ones to go bar-hopping or ride their bikes under the influence like the old, fat, Harley trash.

I don't know what's going on in El Paso regarding the sportbike set, but the answer to the problem more likely lies in educating these young kids who are just out to have some fun and don't they can die. Demonizing them and polarizing your community with provocative editorial based on fear-stricken opinion and perception rather than facts is irresponsible.

WORRY NOT EL PASO!!! these individuals will all be in that great big race-track in the sky soon enough! Around the hospitals they have been rightly dubbed "organ doners." Just pray they don't take one of you with them. As for me I drive a Ford Super-Duty.:) Myself and passengers will win THAT fight. If you ride watch out for me, because I will NOT yeild for you!

Well Dr B Packingwood, I guess that means that even if the motorcyclist is in the right, you will do everything you can to run them over.

It astounds me that Packingwood is offended by aggressive sportbikers, but finds nothing profane in attempting to injury or kill them with his pickup.

Just goes to show that this argument isn't really about having courtesy or respect for one another at all. It's about the entitlement mentality, violent intolerance, and might-makes-right.

Let's see. You are about 5 feet 2 inches tall, weigh 350 lbs., bald, need Viagra to have fun, and dropped out of high school as a freshman. You have 3 teeth, smell like mayo, and a wife half your size and twice your weight (and one tooth) with a rebel flag tattoo on her right tata. Pretty accurate description, huh?

Hey Doc, heads up! i have friends and family that drive Kenworths. Fully loaded and running at speed, they will survive their run in with you! Then your family will find a train engineer I guess, followed by someone else with a relative in the air force that can sling a missile at whoevers left in this "I'm not afraid of you so I don't have to hold any regard at all for your life" battle. And you're a Dr.??? Damn I hope I don't get sick anytime soon. The simple truth is this, despite what people write, think or attempt to convince others of; the person on a motorcycle that does something stupid is the on eresponsible. Not the manufactuer, not others that ride like him, not ANYONE else. Their are good Harley riding, crotch rocket, scooter riding peopel and they are the norm. Not these imbeciles tha think I-10 is an offshoot of Daytona. Independent bikers, club members and sports bike riders all do wonderful things in this community. Some don't. I can find you bad eggs in bunches of school teachers, girl and boy scout leaders .. even cops. Doctors too! Noone is totally sainted (as for the sportsbikers not drinking line from above, I have seen MANY times 10, 15 20 sportsbikes in bar parking lots.. people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones my friend!) Most all bikers are good sane people just trying to get back and forth and/or enjoy a wonderful hobby and lifestyle. To paint all of us with one broad "lunatic/criminal/idiot " brush is the truly stupid thing. Everyone ... you as well Doc ... please watch out for bikes!!! If you see someone behaving crazily, feel free to sic the police on them. Get a plate number or something. Run them down deliberately and the police will look for you. Not to mention those that love, befriend or are a biker.

You tell them Doctor B!!! I don't blame him or anyone else who puts you sons of b!tches in the wall! I have read much of what has been written, most of it comes down to respect. Bikers in general don't have respect for the safety of others on the roads or the laws. TO HELL WITH THEM!

I drive a GMC Duramax Diesel, 4x4, Blue with a lift and Texas plates. Im not a red-neck. I haul for constuction, I too will NOT yeild for that scum!

I would like to steal that girl away from this bozo. Sounds like my kind of gal. A rebel flag tata would be icing on the cake.

All I read is crying. You want to roll by me on I-10 at 90? You talk about respect. It was the behaviour of these care-less individuals that compels me to take the initiative of self preservation.

You may indeed kill yourselves with your riding, hell your dropping like flies in this city already,(about 1 a week) but you will NOT take me or those I love with you!

You know, it's always amazing how brave people get at a keyboard. How about you prove you mean it by posting up your real name, and license plate number, so that when you kill somebody, we'll all know you're a man of your word?

Oh, and the word you're looking for is "yield."

That's weak. You know you're alone in an argument when you have to pretend to be your own friend.

Let them die, only wish more of them were scraped off our roadways. Remember that drunk navy seal who cracked his head open and literally lost his brains. Those images don't deter the fools out there so let them just kill themselves.
