Letters: Reyes responds

Full story: El Paso Times 38
In response to Mr. Matyi's letter criticizing my vote against a bill that would have irresponsibly pulled all of our troops out of Afghanistan immediately: I support bringing our troops home and ending the war in Afghanistan responsibly, but the resolution offered by my colleague, Dennis Kucinich, would have put our soldiers at greater risk and ... TO Silvestre Reyes: I understand your reluctance to pull the troops out of Afghanistan, however it needs to be done and soon. We are not winning there and this is turning into another VIETNAM. Time for all of us to get together and and vote for the removal of all our troops and let the corrupt government of Afghanistan sink or swim on their own. All of our troops should be pulled out of Iraq by September 1, 2011. These troops can then be at home with their families for three straight months and all of them evaluated for PTSD and retrained in immigration rules and regulations and posted on the border of Mexico with the rights to protect themselves and kill anyone who shoots at them. I am tired of the democrats and republicans waffling on immigration reform. If necessary shut down the U.S. Government Bureaucracy that is non-essential and pay the troops and law enforcement agencies only. Put everyone including yourself and the rest of the congress on pay furlough until you politicians get you acts together. You and the congress are a pain in the butt by not bringing the troops home and cutting the budget in a timely manner. To hell with Iraq and Afghanistan. May the people there fight for the rest of their lives until they are no more.

Mr. Reyes,
I am amazed that you would find time in your busy schedule to respond to a letter written to the opinion page of The El Paso Times. Your work and your votes should speak for themselves, and believe me when I tell you, they do.
After so many years in office, we now know that you follow the party line (to a T) and that you have rarely, if ever, voted your conscience. Most of us doubt that you even have one. You have been a puppet dancing on the strings pulled by the Clintons, Kennedy, Palosi, and Reed. That sir, is why you voted AGAINST the authorization of use of military force in Iraq in 2002.
This also explains your flip-flop when you told Newsweek in December 5, 2006 that YOU supported "20,000 to 30,000" additional troops to "take out militias to stabilize Iraq", only to later oppose President Bush's "Surge" in January of 2007 by saying that adding 21,500 troops "was unthinkable"!
You embarrassed El Paso by incorrectly identifying al Queda as "a mix of Sunnis and Shites" and then later, with your inability to identify Hezbollah. This, after just being named chair of the House Intelligence Committee.
Not to worry sir, El Paso democrats will continue to vote for you as most of them don't know any of these things either.

I believe that you are correct. I know Sylvestre Reyes. He can only write, read, and speak what the DNC tells him to. His tepid response was done by a Staffer, as Mr. Reyes has never had an original thought.

After close to a decade of our troops being over there in those crap infested sand boxes of Iraq and Afghanistan and now getting involved in Libya, use some common sense for a change and bring our guys home. They could be better used on our out of control border. These backwards 7th century throwback savages kill UN workers there to help them, behead people over a supposedly "holy quran" being burned in red neck ville florida. They dont deserve the help we are trying to provide them. I know General Petraus is doing the best job he possibly can and to minimize troop deaths by muslims outraged by the burning of a single book. Even he has to know what a futile and hopeless effort this all is. Let those tribal bastards rot in the sand they sleep in. Bring the troops home, retrain them to be a counter terrorist strikeforce to, when necessary, quickly go in there, kill what needs to be killed, punish the survivors and leave!! Not stay there for decades handing out pencils to school children. The time for reality is now. Radical Islam is the threat and those that dont stand up to it are part of the problem. We have to be lean, mean, flexible and overwhelming in our application of force. We cant continue to go around with two lead balls chained to our ankles (Iraq and Afghanistan). We have to crack heads, leave and be fully prepared and ready for whatever other schmuck causes trouble next. Its just too bad we never took care of the real problem of Iran decades ago.

The American poeple will tar and feather anyone who refuses to pay our military and we the people need to let the clowns in Washington know this. It anyone should NOT get paid, it's the president and the rest of the politcos who are spend-happy idiots. No one, and I mean no one, runs their personal budgets the way these fools run the nation, but I guess we might act the same if we were spending OTHER PEOPLE'S MONEY!
This nation was created by statesmen. We have shameless, lifetime politicians today.

Not to worry, if there is a guv shutdown, Congress will continue to get their pay. Whew, I was really worried for you Sylvester! Matter of fact, I had already started a collection for you politicos up on the hill. I guess you won't be needing that anymore.
Ok, seriously, anyone considering a run at Congress should run under the platform of setting 'term limits' and returning the government to the people. Hopefully, more than 50% of voters will get behind this whether the person is Dem, Rep, Ind. or Tea. Parties matter not anymore, just give us a good representative who will vote for what is right and not for what his party demands!

The bill sponsored by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) on 3-17-2011 was voted down by a vote of 93-321 in which eight Republicans and 85 Democrats supported it. The bill would have instructed the Obama administration to remove U.S. troops from Afghanistan and Iraq. It has cost the lives of 5684 Americans in both Iraq and Afghanistan and over $454.7 billion has been spent "and borrowed" in the 10 year war. A simple solution the the U.S. deficit would be a troop withdrawal from both wars and a halt to foreign aid. It is very obvious that both political parties are to blame for the federal government shut down expected at midnight on Friday, 2/3 of Americans no longer believe the war is worth fighting. I also do not believe that congressman Reyes authored the opinion to the El Paso Times, big deal, do the staffers who wrote the article believe that congressman Reyes is the only combat veteran?

Mr. Reyes: GOOOH is in El Paso, and will find another Democrat to run against you 2012! "If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin." Samuel Adams, 1776. GOOOH (GO) stands for Get Out Of Our House. Politicians are destroying our country. We have the solution. Join us. We seek the modern day incarnations of Washington, Franklin and Jefferson. Perhaps that is someone you know. Perhaps that is you.:elp us find them. You, Mr. Reyes, need to Get Out Of OUR House! GOOOH is: A non-partisan plan to elect true citizen reps. A plan to bypass the 2 party when choosing reps. A plan to remove the influence od special interest money. A plan to hold our reps accountable. A plan to FIRE congress. GOOOH is not: A 3rd party. A politicla platform. Republican, Democrat, Tea Party. Join: http://goooh.com/learn.aspx/

The national debt sit around 15 TRILLION dollars. In February alone, it went up 63.7 BILLION dollars. IN ONE MONTH!!!!
The cost of war pales in comparison especially when you divide the cost over a 10 year period.
The fact that Americans who have never worn the uniform of the U.S military don't think wars are "worth fighting" is nothing new. We had "loyalists" who were content living under British rule, and we had people who didn't believe a war was worth the freedom of the Amereican Black Slave. People opposed both World Wars and Vietnam brought about the appex of ridiculous protests and demonstrations.
In short, FREEDOM has a flavor, the protected will never savor and always take for granted.
