The disappearance of Anita Kay Drake, 15, from Louisville, Ohio
On October 15 1963, almost fifty years ago, Anita Kay Drake, 15 vanished from Louisville, Ohio. She was last seen at around 4:30 p.m. leaving her home to go to a nearby store; never to be seen again.
I am endeavoring to write a missing person profile for Anita but next to nothing is on-line. I contacted Tiffanie Pyles at the local library looking for old archived news reports. She got right back to me and attempted to help but unfortunately could fond nothing in the Louisville Herald.
Does anyone in Louisville or Stark County remember Anita Drake or anything about her disappearance?

Thanks Fred, will contact the paper and do that. I don't know if any of Anita's family still live in the area. I do know the Stark County Sheriff’s Department is looking for someone who could provide a DNA sample. BTW she was last seen wearing a sweater, gray skirt, black coat and beige flats.

FYI: Prolog

October 15, 1963, during the last few days of Pax-Americana.

It’s around 4:30 p.m. on a breezy cool Tuesday, under the sign of Libra.

The US president is John F. Kennedy and Camelot, the Broadway musical synonymous with the Kennedy white house, is still on US tour. The Vietnam war is just a minor insurgency - not yet a national nightmare.

The left-hander, Sandy Koufax, becomes baseball’s MVP by helping pitch the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 4 games to 0 victory over the New York Yankees a week earlier. A young Roger Stauback, playing quarterback for Navy, is on the cover of Time Magazine.

Four days earlier, on Friday the 11th, a then little known actor, William Shatner, would be seen on TV in Rod Serling’s “The Twilight Zone” screen play ‘Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.’ The second James Bond action thriller,“From Russia with love” would hit the movie theaters the same night.

During this week the #1 billboard hit is “Sugar Shack” by Jimmy Gilmer & the Fireballs.

“There's this cute little girlie, she's a'workin' there. A black leotard and her feet are bare…”

On this very day the reaction to a Beatles concert in the United Kingdom would first be described as "Beatle mania" after two concerts by the Beatles in Glasgow, Scotland
damaged hundreds of seats because of cheering, stamping, jumping teenage girls.

It’s noted in the trade magazines that a New York radio station plays a Beatles song -“She Loves You”- for the first time. Although the future mega group is still largely unknown in the US.

After school in the small town of Louisville, Ohio a young teen girl with long light brown hair and brown eyes leaves her home to go to a nearby store.

That teen, Anita Kay Drake, 15, is wearing typical mid-fall attire; a sweater, gray skirt, black coat and beige flats

Anita and I were born within a few months of each other. While from different parts of the country we grew up learning the same things. More then likely there is only one major thing setting our individual stories apart -- Anita is never seen again.

This October 15th is the 50 year anniversary of her disappearance.

Yes, she still has relatives living in the area. Growing up in the fifties the Drake family were my neighbors. I was friends with two of her brothers. I don't know any of them anymore but I do know that one of her brothers is still alive. I know this from talking to one of their cousins a few years ago.

They moved out of town sometime around 1957 or 58, as I remember it. They probably had a Louisville address but they lived outside of the city limits. The brother that was my friend then went to school in Canton, Ohio. They lived on Victory Avenue just a mile or so from the Louisville city limits. Some of her relatives might still be in the house.

I talked with her older brother (Aundrel) about ten years ago. They never heard a word or had any clue about what happened to her.

Has anyone ever compared "Orange Socks" to Anita Kay Drake? Both look soo similar. Both same age range and hairline, eyebrows, and face shape.
