I agree with all this but must make a couple of realistic comments. First, I want to be as self sufficient as possible and have researched every solution that currently exists to produce our own power to supply all our needs including transportation. Bottom line is that an affordable solution/technology does not exist yet even with all the tax incentives. Even if you figured out a way to pay for it the likelyhood of the system being obsolete in a very short period of time is high. Remember when calculators were $100? How about those huge satelite dishes? Solar panels although huge and ugly can be put in road medians, roof tops, etc. and they make the most sense to me. I highly oppose the use of wind power. They would ruin our mountain slopes and destroy the peace and quiet we enjoy. There is no such thing as a quiet wind turbine. It's an inconsistant source of power and they kill birds too. I don't mean to sound negative but the bottom line is that the technology we so despirately want isn't here yet. Too bad efforts in this regard were abandoned back in the 70's.
