This student, Vince Ryckman, should not be allowed back in our
school. He needs to be expelled and possibly attend a special
school for students with problems. He clearly needs help, if
he is able to beat another student so badly and break his bones,
pelvis, hip, etc. and put him in the hospital, what will he do next. He could have easily killed him. We are outraged that somethinglike this could happen. Where were the security guards, this is not acceptable. We send our children to school thinking that it is a safe enviornment, we need to take action.

Apparently you need to go back to school. You're spelling is terrible.

The fact is that this was not just a fight between two boys. As Jacob's dad said in his interview "boys will be boys, however, this was well beyond that." He actually broke bones, this is not a normal act. Something needs to be done here.

To all respect to Mr. Flora, you need to get ALL your facts straight. I also see so many words that are spelled incorrectly on your post. Please look at your words before printing.

Thank you!

Another question I have is .... why didn't the boy who put Vince up to fighting Jacob fight him himself????? I find this odd. He should be punished as well. There are so many young students with anger issues, this needs to be addressed. This can escalate into other horrific acts.

I agree there are so many young kids with anger issues, they need special help. It is very upsetting. How can a 14 year old hit and kick so
violently to actually break another boy's bones. This is a violent crime. The anger that this Vince had in him needs to be addressed. I would also like to know where the security guards were. What I have heard from my son is that the security guards are usually in the hallways of the school asking random questions to students, well where were they when a student was beaten so violently??

I am so angry to hear about this story. My boys attend the high school as well. The police need to do something about this. It makes me sad to think that this young boy is in a hospital with broken bones. What I have heard is that he has had a couple of surgergies and is scheduled to have more. He will not be able to walk for several months. What gives this Mr. Ryckman the
right to do this to another human being. He should not be allowed back in our school system. He needs special help, he has anger management problems. He should get help before it is too late.

It is disgraceful! The rage that these young kids are feeling. This is surely a major problem among these kids. The core of the problem is so much deeper. They do need the proper help before it is too late. Parents need to be more involved! I know fights will happen, but this was more than just a fight between two boys. PARENTS PLEASE GET INVOLVED!!!

I think this student should NOT be able to return to school . This act was too extreem. When my son goes to school I expect it to be safe FIRST OF ALL.
This student has definate issues that my need to be addressed. Before he does something worse .
I HOPE THE SCHOOL DOES NOT TAKE THIS LIGHTLY.

WHY WOULD ANYONE PUT OVER 6,000 KIDS TOGETHER MAYBE THAT IS THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!
Im sorry but i hate attending a campus high school because theres way too many people, and stuff like this happens, and with 3 schools theres more classes to offer which means were expected to be a highly academic school which SUCKS!!!!!

Where was security, thats a laugh. I understand that everyone's upset by this incident. But no one cared till it got to this level of violence. You should be asking yourself - what about the other students that get beat up, shoved into lockers, pushed down stairs on a DAILY basis? I would be more frightened by the students that aren't acting out, the ones that silently take the abuse because truly there is barely anyone who cares at those schools.(with some rare exceptions of outstanding teachers - not security) With that many snotty kids in one place I wouldn't be shocked if what happen in Colorado happens here.

What do you expect from a community of "wannabee's"? The parents are wannabees and the kids are worse! The Canton/Plymouth "white collar" employment status has changed dramatically...lot's of parents with financial woes in Canton and Plymouth...(hence the wannabee's reference)...the stress it manifests is bourne out in the action of the kids at school (mom and dad fighting at home all the time, moves to a "control" issue at school")...trying to flex their implied muscle (because they have none)...Plymouth Canton is a sad statement of a seemingly "middle class" people with absolutely "no class"...may God have mercy on all of you in the "pigeon hole"...

Submitting to repeared taunting by a student (Jacob) along with his 'older' friends is not to be accepted in any community. while (jacob) clearly setting up the day and time of the fight - any decent lawyer would throw this bully kid and his money-seeking parents out on the rear ends. If you know the kids and know the families then you know EXACTLY who is at fault. No one ever wants to see a child get hurt, but in Jacob's case he now understands that he has to be careful what he asks for. Lessons are tough.

How many other students knew about this? How many dared not report it for fear of retribution, not being cool, or not being taken seriously? Many college campuses have 6,000 students, but perhaps we expect them to be more mature. With so many students carrying cell phones, how long would it have taken to dial 911? Canton Police have an excellent reputation for quick response. So many factors played a part in this incident, a preventable one.

So what ever came about with Ryckman ? Was he allowed back in school ? I have been an educator for many years and find this story quite disturbing; I hope this young man had more serious consequences than a 4 day suspension.
