First, prevent fires by avoiding open flames,clean dryer vents, no frayed wires, etc.
Second, have a small fire extinguisher available so you can act when a smoke detector goes off.
Make a quick assessment of what you can do. Get people to safety. Call 911 simultaneously.
Find your pants.(Pants are #1)
Find your shoes.
Grab your keys, money and credit cards.
Move your vehicle to safety if needed.
Get out and watch.
