Many of you may not know that the ONLY fulltime progressive talk format on
radio - AM1200(WKOX) and AM1430 (WSKS)- in the Boston Metropolitan area was suddenly yanked off the air Thursday, December 21st without warning or recourse.
While the region has over ten conservative talk radio station (truly media saturation), there is NO liberal/progressive programming at all.
How does the Bluest City in the Bluest State in the union lose their
progressive station? Excessively weak signals, no local programming or sales staff (instead, "canned" automated programming), and a disappointing lack of commitment by station owners and media giant Clear Channel.
We are a grassroots group of citizens working together to bring the format
back to our airwaves. We believe that a true democracy must be well informed by a diversity of opinions and points of view.
The issue is even bigger than Boston. This is about media consolidation and
corporate control of our airwaves. The same move was slated for the
Progressive Talk station in Madison, WI, but a group of citizens worked
together and reversed the decision. Other towns are facing the same situation, also starting to fight the decision.
Whether you listened to "Boston's Progressive Talk" or not, if you believe
the air waves belong to the people to serve the public interest (as stated
by the FCC regulations) and must have balance, you can still support our
efforts by signing the petition. If you'd like to be more involved, join
our yahoo group or attend a meeting. Please pass this on to as many people
as you can! Our goal is at least 5000 signatures!(If Madison can do it,
WE CAN too!!!)
