Are they planning on closing 42 miles of the river to public use ?? that would devastate the rafting and fishing industry up there.. I don't get how they plan to do this without disrupting a blue ribbon river.. Sounds like the actual river FISHING guides haven't said anything,, or there not interviewing them..If they aren't closing the river would you be in the shade... That might not be bad.. but what about the caddis hatch.. WONT THE TARPS STOP THE ANNUAL CADDIS MIGRATION... COULD HAVE A DEVASTATING EFFECT ON THE RIVER AND FISH...AND WHY WOULD ANYBODY WANT TO SEE A BUNCH OF TARPS COVERING A BEAUTIFUL MOUNTAIN RIVER SCENE...... cant make that veiw any better by covering it...I wonder how many people laughed when they said "hey lets cover a prestigious wildlife area with blankets... itl be so much better"...THEN THE PALMS WERE GREASED.......AND ITS A THING OF BEAUTY...ID BE WILLING TO BET THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO LOOSE IN THIS ARE THE FISHING GUIDES AND THE PUBLIC THAT USE THE RIVER..

John Bowman and Libby Weaver are captivated by the idea of the "Over the River" pitch. Art, like criticism, is in the eye of the beholder. In theory, for instance, I like both the non-representational element of Christo's approach and the Navajo sand painting quality of the temporary duration of his constructs. We are told that the fabric, supports and cables will be "industrially recycled" (how many shelters in Haiti might they provide?) and of course many people are salivating at the idea of "free [tourist] money" for southern Colorado. All interesting perspectives, but I still think they have finally found the emperor's missing clothes.

WHY? This is not ART, I don't know what it is other than just plain UGLY!!, The natural beauty of that river is far more beautiful than anything man could ever produce. This is a total waste of time and money, I sincerly hope that we the public do not have to pay for this IDIOT's DREAM.

Dumb, Dumber, Dumbest. Yeah... let's hang sheets over a one of the most beautiful places in the state. How long will the 600 jobs last, might I ask? They don't seem like career positions to me. The impact of the environment (who will know)... the livelyhood of the recreation and enjoyment of those of us who utilize these areas will be demised.... in the name of an "art" project. Also how will the fabric sustain under the weather conditions (visions of sheets/fabric floating downstream). Based on the "picturesque" shown in the article... JUST PLAIN OUT UGLY. LOSE this idea!!!

Have they thought about the impact to water temperatures? This shades the water, thus keeping the water temp lower. This could have impacts locally or down-stream to the plants, fish, and other wild life that rely on the river. Cool project, but I guarantee there will NOT be no impact to the environment and there's no way they can return it exactly the way it was before the project started.

What an eyesore that would be. Having been rafting on that river numerous times, I would not want to see the river covered by sheets. That is not why I go white water rafting. I would stay home and I suspect that others would too.

Can you not find anything better to do with all that money? Maybe building more shelters for the homeless?

If I paid to go rafting and had to look at this BS instead of looking at the beauty of the Ark, I'd never return! Not to mention the impact to the flora and fauna due to a lack of SUNSHINE!

Why is it that a couple of "elitists" wish to subject the entire population of the county with their crap. The majority of us in Canon City do not believe that it will have the tourism impact they promise. So a couple of rich people from New York will come and say "Ooooooooooohhhh!!" Give me a will do more harm that good.
