There are 5 comments on the LA Daily News story from Dec 13, 2009, titled Going solar at cut-rate cost. In it, LA Daily News reports that:

"I seriously started doing the calculations," said Dickinson, "and it finally financially made sense, especially with the tax changes." In the San Fernando Valley, homeowners like Dickinson and his wife, Sara, a jewelry designer, have become the unwitting faces of the solar energy movement - residents who didn't set out to be green activists but ...

This shows how simple tax incentives and the private sector can promote solar energy far more easily and economically than Measure B, which would have imposed a DWP monopoly on solar power.

After eight years, the panels, from being exposed to powerful ultraviolet light, and heat, will need replacing and upgraded, as those panels output will diminish over time, and require lots of cleaning, in hard to reach places, to keep them efficient.

SO, ALL THAT TAX BREAKS DO IS PASS THE COSTS ONTO OTHER TAXPAYERS AND RATE USERS, CRUSHING FURTHER THEIR FAMILY BUDGETS.

It makes economic sense to the home owner, possibly, but not for us taxpayers, and rate payers, who must foot the bill for their heated pool.

Another government scam to take more of our money for their pet projects.

A lot of wasted money.

Virtually every solar panels sold in the USA has a 30 year warranty.....

And with prices as low as a dollar per watt they will pay for themselves in about 4 years in a sunny area and 6 years in a area like San Francisco

I have panels that are ten years old and still test out at rated power. UV light has little effect over that short of time. Cleaning is minimal and rain does most of that for me. Better come up with something better than that.

What brand of panel do you have?

Most panels have a 30 year warranty to 90% percent of rated output

Some have a 20 year 90% and 30 year 80%

If you get one of the soap dispensing washers that hook to a garden hose made to clean tall windows it will help keep your panels clean.

They get a oil film from smog and other sources that causes the dust to stick
