The bridge over "The River" on Canoga Avenue has been under construction for over 2 years. It appears to have been completed about a month ago, but half of the lanes remained closed. Are we waiting on an inspection from the City? I have noticed that the last 10% of the work on these projects takes 90% of the time. Who is keeping track of the schedules? If I performed my private sector duties in this manner, I would not have my job very long.

Shame on you Mr. Zine... This mess is happening in YOUR house. The condition of the streets in the West Valley are a disgrace to the Stakeholders. The incompetence of the contractor working the Sherman Way project nicely matches the competence of our City Leaders involved with the project. When I spend other people's money, I am more careful than when I spend my own. Our City Leaders might think about adopting a similar philosophy.

I'm reminded of an old saying about putting lipstick on a pig. There are so many problems affecting this area. All one needs to do is look at the graffiti on the signs announcing the beautification project to realize that textured crosswalks isn't the fix that this neighborhood needs. Besides, turning a busy street into an art project is simply stupid. Are we going to have a 35 MPH speed limit with all the cars going 10 MPH because of the bumpiness of the texture? Maybe the city officials needs to take a trip down Calabasis Road, west of Valley Circle Blvd. I drive a 27' bobtail and it's 5 MPH through those crosswalks, or I risk damaging my load.

EVERY DAY HEROES
Straight-up people in the construction trade, the ones who work everyday in a rough and sometimes difficult business have banded together for a rare and fairly public task. They want to have an effect on the terrible ravages of breast cancer.
Under the leadership of thecontractorsside dot com, a widely disparate and independent group of competitors has allied from their own numbers to raise money for mammograms. This money is targeted specifically for women who may be of high risk and who need early detection.
The members of the profession have all been touched in one way or another by the disease of breast cancer, either a mother, a sister, a wife who may be in the throes of cancer therapy or who could have succumbed to it.
thecontractorsside dot com surveyed members when the idea came up and found unanimous support for the "Mommie Hammer" re-branding of an existing product, and they devoted hours of time in getting the word out.
There was never a question of why do it, solving problems is in the contractor DNA. The question was how to do it. The answer was to use internet tools and to focus on the outreach.
Contractors are usually considered to be a rugged bunch. Who better to tackle the task?
Contractors consistently show up at the scene of natural disasters, giving generously of their time and equipment, but few hear about it. Storms, earthquakes, fires all bring about circumstances that require expertise that contractors demonstrate daily, and yet few reports make it to daylight. Firemen, police and other agencies have public information outlets that contractors do not, so the story of the independent contractor helping out in trying times is lost in the bigger picture, but indeed they are there.
The "Mommie Hammer" campaign is but one more demonstration that the contractors care.
If you drive on it, work in it, or live in it, a contractor built it.
Thanks,
Heather
