Contractor rips up street before discovering lack of right mate...

Three weeks ago, construction workers ripped up downtown Canoga Park for a "beautification project" - then disappeared.

2) This construction company getting the job sounds like political favoritism, and that should be investigated, too, as should the entire CRA.

3) Is the contractor related to the mayor? Blow into town; start big projects and disappear.

Canoga Park in general is a s**t hole and a pigsty. Sherman Way from Topanga Canyon East through the Valley is nothing but a haven for Illegal Aliens, gangbangers and the like. Trash, dirty diapers and empty liquor containers line the streets around this area. Looks like Tijuana without the Burro and obvious hookers. The only way to truly "beautify" Sherman Way would be to fire-bomb the whole area and rebuild from the ground up.

Finally, with this latest debacle, the spotlight shines on the out of control Canoga Park CRA. Nobody wants the cobblestone cross walks, they are a nuisance and inconvenience to too many people. Just ask the many handicapped in wheel chairs that will have to cross them, or the mothers pushing strollers with infants. Lets be practical and think about the people who, live and work here. Put Sherman Way back to where it was and forget this nonsense, and put the money into more practical and beneficial projects. We who live and work here want Canoga Park to shine and prosper, and appreciate much of the work of the CRA, but they need to serve the needs of the community.

CRA, what idiots! Zine?, Terrible management...All 4 major intersection of "Downtown Canoga Park" tied up at the same time, until November! Bright idea...What a waste of money. Beautify Canoga Park? Not by putting bricks in the street. Look at Reseda with their brick streets! Are they any better with brick streets? I agree, how can you beautify "Little Tijuana" with the trash, diapers, day workers at major intersections. Beware of taking alternate residential routes during construction. Drive at your own risk. Aliens drive like they are in Tijuana. They come out of nowhere..Come visit us at night for crime time, you'll hear LAPD helicopters nightly.

Note that the large signs announcing the "Beautification" project, that were placed on DeSoto Ave, were immediately covered with graffiti, to the point of being unreadable. There is only one way to beautify this area. No one has the courage to do it. Meanwhile, we're told that we may not have the money to staff the new police station. At least we'll have pretty crosswalks that people won't be able to push their strollers across.

As far as the construction. There was already a project impacting Canoga/Sherman way, Canoga/Vanowen, Canoga/Victory Topanga/Vanowen and Topanga/Victory. Despite this, they screw up Sherman Way/Owensmouth and Sherman Way/Desoto. That is seven major intersections in a 1 sqaure mile area, that have been bottlenecked. Zine should be looking at the timing of all of these projects. They have effectivly blocked all of the alternate routes that one would use to get around any of the individual projects.
