Wow! Harassment now being alleged after 15 years of service. Why not come out about it sooner? Something sounds funny to me. Why can't she and the other officer who ran a person down under her watch admit they did wrong. What about her kids? Doesn't she realize what she is doing to them?

Does this "officer" and her attorney really think anyone believes that she wrote the tickets by mistake because she couldn't see and was under stress. It just goes to show she thinks she is above the law. Now she is going to play the harrassment cards. Unbelievable.
Please justice system, please do the right thing this time and strip her of all her Police pension, send her to jail and most importantly, don't let her get off any of the charges. Please don't play the harrassment game because you're a women. It's not fair to people who have been harrassed because of their race, gender and how much money they have in their pocket.

IF A COP CANT COME UP WITH TWO LEGITIMATE TRAFFIC STOPS IN 11 HOURS THEN THEY MUST BE UNDER HEAVY MEDICATION (SLEEPING PILLS). I THINK SHE TIPPED THEM OFF WHEN MICKEY MOUSE CAME TO THE DEPARTMENT TO PAY OFF HIS FIX IT TICKET!

Wow, Rozie, you talk of wanting the justice system to work but you obviously have determined she is guilty. Very hipocritical. Not everyone charged is guilty. Thus, the system.... And maybe her harassmet was real. Maybe there are men out there who don't believe women belong in this line of work and should only do certain jobs, like handle kid calls, and maybe, just maybe, they said innapropriate things to her or put pressure on her in someother way..... It amazes me that you people forget she had 15 years with a spotless record, spotless, oh, except the complaint she filed on her chief....hmmm, I wonder......

I believe in innocent until proven guilty. But, she admited she was guilty first of all when she resigned and secondly when she admited she wrote the tickets mistakenly because of her eye sight. If her eye sight is so bad how come she is telling residents of hastings that she is taking computer classes and she drives herself and her kids around. I think you might be getting dupped here CC. Hey, I do believe that one of the medias (don't remember which, maybe star tribune) said she was reprimanded for another issue.

"Tuesday's complaint alleges that Scharfe filed the tickets so she could meet a Police Department quota." I thought citation quotas was against the law.

This cop is crazy. If she pulled over more people maybe she would know how a stupid excuse really sounds. Sounds like Reno 911 down there. Whats with the quota? Very funny. Can we convict her for laziness and stupidity?

What happened to the integrity in law enforcement? Officers like her make all of the dedicated law enforcement officers look bad. Shame on her. How would you feel if you had a warning on your DMV record because this cop is crooked and pulls names up for a quota. Then not even to take responsibility for it! What a loser! I hope she is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. As for this harrassment BS, yeah right.

John K wrote: "Tuesday's complaint alleges that Scharfe filed the tickets so she could meet a Police Department quota." I thought citation quotas was against the law. Quotas are illegal, but Hastings does not have a quota, nor was it reported as such. It was reported that Hastings policy requires their officers to make at least 2 traffic contacts in their 11 hour shift. That means stopping 2 people in 11 hours and at least saying "hey, you're driving a little fast, slow down, and have a nice night". Unless you're really, really lazy, that shouldn't be a problem. In this case, laziness ruled the night for this officer. The vast majority of Hastings cops are good cops and work hard to do their jobs right. This particular officer will not be missed.

First, this officer was obviously a lousy cop. I don't think this particular lousy cop can really be considered the best representative for the integrity of all of law enforcement. Second, to answer your question, I would feel pretty singled out if a warning ticket showed up on my "DMV record", mainly because warning tickets don't (and never have) shown up on ANY driving record.

She resigned prior to the charges even being told to her. They didn't inform her of the charges until 2 months after she resigned. She had already started the law suit. You guys don't have a clue how vindictive they are down there. The fact that people think this is a straight forward deal is soooo wrong. And she made simple errors in writing license numbers down on paper. These were verbal warning, not citations. How many of you need reading glasses? The fact you think she resigned because of the complaint is silly. You need to know the fact before accusing her. And she had 37 mistakes in almost two years of warning. The warning go no where, not on your record. She would not even have to document the lousy stops if it were not for the chief wanting to have a quota. No other department documents "verbal warning" I have heard many officers complain of this. She is not the only one having issues. I think there should be an investigation into the administration....seems there is a pattern emerging. When they can't get thier way, they charge them criminally. What a waste of my taxes! They charged her because they new a law suit was coming! Many people know the truth, let it come out before judging. It should get fun in hastings for awhile!

#1: Thank God her specific medication only affected her vision when writing parking citations and not during domestic assaults, etc. I'd hate to be the victim of an assault (or an innocent bystander) and have her pull up to the scene with her poor eyesight, let alone other unmentioned side-affects of her meds.
#2: The Hasting city attorney must be pretty miffed - I wonder how many traffic tickets, misdemeanors, and felonies are going to be appealed because the issuing/arresting officer now admits that she was on meds that affected her perception of reality.

Apparently you didn't read the story peter. Her medication affected her vision, not her perception of reality. Big difference! I doubt everone who can't read without reading glasses has an issue with thier perception of reality. It amazed me the amount of people who like to make comments without knowing the details. I guess people do really believe everything they read.

And now to address your argument Jack: if you lay down a pair of sixes and my poor eyesight records them as eights, I have in fact changed the reality of the situation. So instead of mincing words, let's stick to real issue and agree that the meds affected her performance on the job, and, some might see that as an opportunity to cry foul.
It amazes me the way people will claim superiority in a discussion by mincing words rather than dealing with the real issues. ;)
