My house was one that was picked to be restored, but the people that do the work dont do it right, they dont follow the way that the goverment tells them to do it, or dont do the work at all. They were to replace wiring in my attic, charged 2,700 to do it and they werent up in my attic for 10 minutes, they didnt even take any wireing up there with them! I need someone to listen to me and help me with this!

If it were me I would first go to Don Whitman. He is one of the most get it done right men I've ever know. Then I would contact the licensing board with the County and have an inspecter come see exactly what to place. Who payed the bill and why was it payed before the job was inspected. Do not lay down on this. That is an awful lot of money. We need to make sure you get your money's worth. Specially with wiring!!! That can be a matter of life and death ,

Thank you for your comments, I will do just that and go talk to Don, he did help me out when they were doing the work, the contractor wasn't a very nice man and Don couldn't believe that he talked to me the way he did, Don was standing right beside me when it happened! I went to a Caney city meeting and told them of the things that went on and one of the city board members said go ahead and pay the contractor even tho they had destroyed my bathroom floor by breaking my stool and flooding the carpet, I have pictures of what they did and didn't do, now I am having trouble with my electric, what do you do when the city says go ahead and pay them and tell me to get a lawyer!

I don't know what to tell you about your troubles with contractors but you aren't the first one that said you got shoddy or unfinished work. Caney is in bad need of a shake up in out government from the top down. Not one of them tells the same story and they all seem to be crooks. Why was it your responsibility to get a lawyer. The work should never have been paid for until it was inspected and if it wasn't inspected somebody is in DEEP trouble!

You know I was told by a certain mayor, that the contractor that did my work would never do another job in Caney, because of the kind of work he did on my house, but guess what hes done bid on four houses in Caney and I feel sorry for the people that get him, because he doesnt do it according to the work code that they are suppose to go by and the way the goverment says they are suppose to do it! And if they break something good luck in trying to get them to fix it! the city went over my head and voted to pay the contractor when I was sitting right there at the city meeting and telling them that there was still things that werent right, they voted and told me to get a lawyer, the contract says right in it that I have to sign the papers but I guess contracts arent good any more. I pray that someone comes to my aid and helps me with this!

This is exactly how these bad contractors stay in business. You have been complaining about this certain contractor and saying he is terrible and did damage, but when asked who he is you pass the buck. The Mayor and Don Whitman are not going to say anything about a contractor because of liabilty reasons, because they work for the City. However you are not bound by those same rules and regulations, so say who it is!! All you have to do is start by saying "in my opinion".....
If you don't say who it was I do not give one ounce of credit to all your post, and you deserved evrything you got, becuase you refuse to help someone else from being screwed by this contractor.
Simple, put up or shut up.

I am sorry that you feel that way but I am still trying to get my things fixed on my house and if I say who it is it can stop my house from being fixed, and let me tell you this no one deserves to have bad work done when the goverment is paying for it, I have had legal cousel and also who knows what could happen if I state a name and in my opinion you need to stay on top of your workers when your house is being done, I will say this contractor did the big house by the store up town.

TWV,
I think that you should contact the city about the possiblity of them allowing a less than average contractor to do your work, instead of telling "just me" to risk getting their problems fixed...afterall its not "just me's" fault that our local city officials are less than adequate at their jobs. But then again, Caney continues to slide down hill and alls everyone wants to do is gripe about it and not elect or demand better representation.

Look at my post under "city overstepping it's limits". I totally agree it is the City of Caney's fault for allowing these unscrupulous contractors to be in business in the first place, and to allow them to continue shows the Mayor and the Council could care less about the citizens of Caney.
However, since we know the Mayor and Council are worthless, that is why, I believe it is our duty to inform people about these bad or shoddy contractors. Just so some other poor unsuspecting person does not get taken in by them.

By the way, I actually do live in Georgia. Caney is my home town, born and raised there. I have worked with Dale McBride at Phillips, and I went to school with Chad Bradford. I have tried getting both of their emails, so I could write them personnaly and ask them why they are allowing this to continue, but I haven't had any luck. So if anyone knows the email of the Mayor or the email of Councilman Bradford, please let me have it. Most towns, cities, or jurisdictions, post things like that on the web, but not Caney.

thank you for your input, I was really surprised that they did not help me like I thought they would, actually I was shocked, I contacted the kansas rep. and the first thing he said to me was don't pay the contractor, but guess what the city already voted to pay him over my head, yes it is sad that they don't help their own people, if they don't who is going to? If it was their house they would of done something! I don't know how to get those e-mails for you but I will try.

It is very easy to tell someone what to do when you don't even live in Caney. If you care so much, why did you leave?

Yes, there are alot of high paying jobs in Caney...NOT. C'mon you have to admit the only way to make a six figure salary is to leave Caney.

I don't think that you necessarily have to leave Caney at all to make good money, I was born and raised in Caney and yes I could make a little more in my occupation else where, but my cost of living would be higher as well. I'm just saying if you cared so much that you did stay you would find a way to make a better living instead of throwing your opinion around and making generalizations about everyone in Caney.

Daily Horoscope for December 15

Scorpio

You're feeling conciliatory and compassionate today, and you're ready to bury the hatchet if you've been at odds with someone recently. You may have to make the first move, and risk getting a brush off, but you'll consider that a small price to pay if it means you're able to restore the peace. The relief you feel will tell you how much this has been preying on your mind.
