is it just me or is sexual misconduct and sin prevalent in Independant Fundamental Baptist churches? Look at Jack Hyles, Dave Hyles, and the list goes on and on. In fact, Grand View Baptist Church seems to be a haven for pedophiles, look at Jim Benson, James Sheehan, Mike Mizer, and now Justin Gillen.

I love this church and I dont believe that it is the church or the preacher. I do believe that there is a a belief in the Independent Baptist Church that is a little off balance. They preach that their wife and children should only wear dresses because they dont want provoctive dress to make a man sin. So in turn, the men dont find their wife appealing because they are dressed frumpy and then they see another woman that is dresses sexy and they go off the deep end. I have been on both sides of the spectrum and I belive that there needs to be a balance. In my opinion, this guy was weird from the beginning. He was married to my good friend in high-school and he had issues before he went to Grand View. It is not the "church" per say, but this idea that if you go to church you can be perfect. The problem is that some people hide in this because they act as though they are perfect and they are lying to themselves and to the people they love. There needs to be freedom to be who you are...human. If you act perfect and people think you are, you will find yourself getting away with weird things. Please dont hold this against the church or the pastor.

The church and it's pastor are complicit in this crime by fostering a dictator-like control of the poor deluded people attending there. Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia have shown us that when a single man aquires that much power, corruption occurs. The biggest problem that baptists have is that they claim to believe in Grace, but then make man-made rules; such as the skirts and dresses that you so ably mentioned, the forbidding of alcohol, movies and dancing, and the removal of all contact between the sexes. Baptists believe the Bible ONLY when it fits their doctrine, otherwise they must do akward mental aerobics to bounce around the passages they don't (or won't) accept.

You forget that he wasn't tempted by a sexy woman, but by the PENISES OF 12 YEAR OLD BOYS! What is wrong with Grand View Baptist Church that we would hire a closet PEDOPHILE?!?!? HE LIKED TO LOOK AT THE GENITALS OF PRE-PUBECENT BOYS!!! How can you defend that? Get a life, and get over your devotion to Mike Mutchler/Jack Hyles/Jack Schaap. Your faith should be pointed to Christ, not men. Your life should be guided by Scripture, not "standards and convictions."

Do you even know what legalism is? Legalism 'The doctrine that salvation is gained through good works.' The beliefs of this church are not that of follow these rules to go to heaven. We do believe in staying seperate from the world and wearing and doing things that are pleasing to God. Check your definitions smart guy =)

You say we belive in staying separate? Like what - producing pedophiles like Dave Hyles, heritics like Jack Schaap (who says that when you take the Lord's Supper you are having SEX WITH GOD, and that when a wife accepts her husbands sperm she is by that action accepting Christ - The Divine Intamacy; chapter 3, Hyles Publications, 2006), and wonderful assistant pastors like Justin Gillen, who thought that it was a good idea to look at the GENITALS OF LITTLE BOYS FOR SEXUAL GRATIFICATION! You can't blame him however, he was just a product of his environment. Just following his leaders.

This "Christ Vestal" guy is absolutely right!!
I can't tell you the hundreds of hours in therapy and thousands of dollars spent trying to reverse the damage done by GVBC.
I was raised in the system, and unlike many others, was able to break free; now, I attempt to lead a normal, sane life. But it isn't easy.
The fact is, sexual repression manifests itself in many different ways. The reason we find sick pedophiles who like to peep at little boys in "christian" churches today is because repression isn't natural. I attribute my own extreme eroticism (nothing illegal) to the fact that I wasn't even allowed to touch members of the opposite sex for fear of expulsion. And the sick devotion that church members hold to Mutchler is unnerving (the guy looks like a fucking used car salesman for christ sake). GVBC is a cult and should be burned to the ground. The sad part is that innocent chidren are being raised in this twisted way of life. Humans were meant to be free from harsh moral constraints and allowed to hold hands, kiss their highschool girlfriends, wear "worldy" clothing (what right do they have to dictate appropriate clothing anyway?), go to the movies, and get down to some sweet Michael Jackson hits.
I encourage all those scarred by GVBC/GVCA to email me at:
cd-rwd@hotmail.com. Let's form a support group and bitch about all the fucked up people.

Like many words in the dictionary, legalism has more than one meaning. In fact, when applying the appropriate defenition, your satement contradicts itself. Then again, it's just like the Baptists to twist things to their liking and also contradict their own doctrine.
You know what I think pleases your god: not judging people by the clothes they wear or how much more "christian" you are; not firing back with condesending satements; certainly not gender assumption or bias.

Just so that you know, I can call what he did disgusting and wrong because God calls it disgusting and wrong! Are you baptists so stupid that anytime someone calls what you and your leaders (Jack Hyles, Dave Hyles, Jack Schaap, Michael Gillen) do sin, or doesn't use fancy phrases to gloss over the sexual perversion rampant in fundamentalism, that you get angry? Read your Bible! You are such Pharasees! You claim to have the only Bible, but by your beliefs you obviously don't read it! Crack that book open and see what Jesus says about causing a little one to stumble, and that is EXACTLY what Gillen and Dave Hyles were involved in. I guess every sex pervert, money grubbing pastor, hypocrite, and idiot should be Independent Baptist so that no one can say anything against them? Are you, abc, are advocating giving a carte blanche to any Baptist based on his church preference? Get over yourself! Sin is sin, and it is a Christian's right to call it so. Maybe you defend Gillen because you already know how corrupt the Independent Baptists are.

Abc, I pray that you will read the Word of God and discover what it says for yourself. It is obvious that your only knowledge of the Bible is the few snippets you hear misquoted in your “three to thrive” attendance at a Baptist church. If you take a look-see, you will read that Jesus tells us to “Judge all things…,”“Test the spirits,” and that we will “judge angels.”(Since the “Dr.” Mutchler says that wherever the Bible says angel it means pastor I am merely taking this to its logical conclusion) The passage to which you mistakenly refer says that IF you judge, be prepared to be held to the same standard, and I am more than ready for that. The Bible says to be blameless. Is Gillen blameless? Is Dave Hyles blameless in his seduction of fourteen-year-old girls (I would also ask why Grand View Baptist Church had the very same Dave Hyles who couldn’t remain faithful to his wife in favor of pre- and teenage girls revamp their Sunday School program)? Is Jack Schaap blameless when in his book “Marriage: Divine Intimacy”(Published 2006 by Hyles publications), in chapter 3 claims that the Christian is the female in the salvation relationship and that when a Baptist partakes of Holy Communion he is having “Spiritual Intercourse (read sex) with God?” Or when – in the same chapter – he posits that when a wife lays back and accepts her husbands seed during sex, she is by that action telling Jesus Christ (the Second Person of the Trinity, Almighty God) that she wants to receive Him in like manner? Maybe, abc, you are in agreement with the venerable “Dr.” Schaap when – later in chapter 3 – he claims that in Psalm 119 when David uses the word “laid” it means that David physically lusts after God’s law, and that the word “stuck” means that David (under inspiration of the Holy Ghost) was so in love with the Words of God that he wanted to penetrate them?
I think that YOU need to stop relying on what a “man of God” says, and start reading the Word of God for yourself. God will speak to you clearly without being filtered through a self-styled preacher, a “man of God.” I pray that someday you will wake up and realize that the Bible says what it means, and it is no light thing to send people astray as a majority of the Baptist dogma does. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE GOD’S GRACE, and do not try to fit the Bible into your doctrine, fit your doctrine to the Bible. Remember, Scripture – not Jack Hyles, Mike Mutchler, First Baptist, or Grand View Baptist is the final authority.
I pray that God will bless you and your family and keep you safe there.

Unlike your religion, this discussion isn't about tearing someone else down or self glorification: it is about exposing the TRUTH. The truth is: preverse sexual deviance is proven to be fostered in "christian" churches that inhibit normal childhood development by restricting natural exploration, curiosity, and eduacation. If "fundumental baptist" churches loosened their straitjacket, their might not be as many criminals in this world (IMAGINE THAT!!).
And who the hell do you think you are telling someone to open their bible and not judge someone else? Do you not understand your sentance COMPLETELY REVEALS YOUR HYPOCRASY!! I can say this, because I am atheist and can judge whomever I want. But you are judging someone, telling them they shouldn't judge someone else. Do you understand, or are you so wrapped up in your dillusional little world that you can't see past your own moral elitism? Open your eyes and stop living in denial. You are wrong, your way of life and dedication to your religion is wrong, and your proposition to forgive, overlook child rape is completely wrong.
So tell me I'm going to hell, tell me it is okay to promote horrible criminal actions, tell me how much better you are than me: tell me how big a hypocrite you are
