Why don't we lay off politicians, cut their salaries and perks, dump T.A.R.P., pork, outlaw lobby groups, get rid of the Federal Reserve, and the IRS?

What a surprise. Police get stealth cruisers, directed energy weapons, APCs, whatever they want. But firefighters get laid off, and they have to have ads in the paper asking for volunteer EMTs.

You see, your life isn't worth anything to the government. They don't care about you. All you are to them is a source of revenue. That's why people who generate revenue get whatever they want, including state of the art, military-grade crowd control weaponry, while people who are saving lives get laid off or have to work for free.

Yes firefighters are nessary in any area, BUT also they ( paid) ones that abuse the position do not need to be kept on and believe me abuse is daily in an area that needs less not more.

This cartoon has to be drawn by a former volunteer from canandaigua, ask the city fire chief why there are almost 20 highly trained volunteers and a fire chief that live inside the "city" but volunteer elsewhere. The career staff here have argued there way right out of a job, the volunteers will do a great job, and be just as "professional" as the formar career staff!

You bootsniffers are just mad that they'll take away your blue lights. I hope they let you keep the " I fight what you fear " sticker on your car.

Great Post! The volunteers will do a great job if you get some of the paid staff out of the way. This could be just what the city needed.

Yes, The cops have had a lot of cuts, but they can make it up in tickets, selling your stolen items on EBAY, firefighters & EMT's can't.

Welllll, Yeah to a point. You DO get a benifit from the full time firefighters. They get paid to maintain the equipment and do the dirty jobs the volunteers don't show up for. But I also agree, that the wrong type personality on the full time position makes things work less effectively.
Slow to hire, quick to fire. Choose carefully.

Now that's the way to do it. Here we have a smoking ember of brilliance waiting to come to light in the wood heating season. Of coarse it won't be my house burning while the volunteers race across the icy streets to cheapskates street. Why don't you try across the board cuts and cutting your salary by lets say a hot 90%

Why it it that city's with paid Fire Fighter are laying off because os money in the Budget? Maybe they could ask for money from all Volunteer Fire Departments in Money County.. Who seem to have Extra Money. They all seem to be building NEW Million Dollar Fire Houses.. ie: Nice to have Spencerport Fire Dept park there trucks on Nice Tile Floors... Talk about of Waste of Money...
