This officer should have been in jail years ago. If it weren't a cop that was "subdued", this would be an open and shut case. Why was he on active duty? Why would anyone allow this guy to carry a gun? The Police Force is repsonsible for this death, nto the hero who saved a helpless women. Any Officer that stands up for this deadbeat cop, should receive a thourough analysis. The officer had a history of violence and aduse, and now when somebody does something heroic, they end up in jail. That fact that the Union head(Paul Hlynsky) supports the actions of the officer, shows you how delusioned the Police Union is. His idiotic statements remove all credibilty from his own character..... The world is a better, safer place with this cop off the streets. The man who stepped in and prevented and innocent woman from being killed, should receive a medal for his actions

Every comment I have seen on this story is similar. I stand by what I said earlier: "Jerry, Thank God Mr. Carlson (despite his broken neck) was able to defend himself, his wife, and the officer's own wife from these life-threatening, violent attacks. There is no excuse for attacking women, not even this officer's extreme intoxication. I extend my deepest sympathies to the Carlson family for having been placed in this awful situation. I pray for justice; for Mr. Carlson's prompt release. Listen to the 911 call and ask yourself,“What would I have done in such a terrible situation?” I suspect you’d do what anyone in that situation what do; the only thing Mr. Carlson could do, and protect the defenseless. What would your husband, or your father have done?

p.s.: I would not be suprised at all to see a civil suit against the city of Akron initiated. Why was this criminal still on active duty when the police department knew, or should have known about his crimes?

If you never knew Michael Beitko personally then you have no right to judge him. He had his demons, just as everybody does. Don't form an opinion of him based only on the last 10 minutes of his life. Yes, he made some mistakes, but please know that Mike had a good heart and was always there if a friend or family member needed him. Oh, and you shouldn't form an opinion of Jacob Carlson either unless you know him personally.

No one can form an opinion on someone for the last ten minutes of their life, but certainly that last ten minutes is indicitive of the kind of life said person lived. Maybe if some boundaries had been established by friends and family, it never would've escalated to the point where Mike attacked his wife and sister, leaving Jacob with no other option but to protect INNOCENT life.

If you form your opinion of what happened that night by listening to the 911 tape or by reading what was posted in the media, you do not have all the facts. The fact is what was happening at the scene and what was being reported to the 911 operator was not the same. True, alcohol had played a big factor in this incident. I have to wonder if the lies were an attempt to get the police to the house faster. I don't know, never will. I can honestly say I was never in fear for my own life or the life of my children. There were other options such as waiting another 60 seconds for the police to arrive and handle this situation. After all, they are trained to do so. Jacob CHOSE to handle the situation in the manner that he did. Just like he told he would if Mike "got out of hand" at their home. This is more a matter of a man (Jacob) not being able to control a situation than it is protecting the lives of others. Listen to what he shouts after the shots were fired at the end of the 911 tape. The media has no idea how much deeper this goes than what they chose to report.

I am not defending Mike's actions that night. Yes, he was drunk. Yes he was argumentative and beligerent. I just know that the evening did not have to end with his death.

Why in the world would anyone (namely, ME) lie to the 911 operator?! If you hear my voice on the tape, it is clear that I am terrified of my very own brother. Clearly enablers aren't capable of looking at the situation honestly.

Mike was an a-h0le, and always has been, but he probably didn't deserve to die that night. But maybe he did.
I knew the guy well enough to know that as soon as he got a couple of drinks in him, I didn't want to be around him. He was a funny good-natured guy when he was sober. Trouble was, the guy liked to drink. A lot. He was known for his blackouts, so well known that his friends had a nickname for them.
My opinion is that Mike's death probably saved someone that would have died needlessly by Mike's drunken hand. Probably a family member or friend. We'll never know.

Clearly enablers aren't capable of looking at the situation honestly. I listened to the tape when it was posted on-line. I believe you, as most reasonable people would. If you were lying, you are one of the best actresses in the world. My condolences for having to live though the whole experience, and for the loss of your brother.
