i agree with 2 cents except for the comment regarding the police, until the laws and signs are changed, they are doing the job the law makers pay them to do - has anyone been to any hotel pool- no lifeguard on duty- swim at your own risk- parents are responsible for kids under eighteen

I was there today also and a guy died from jumping the falls. So I don't think the police are doing anything wrong targeting jumpers. Granted the guy should have known better to jump the falls. He waited till the cops left and then went to the falls...and ended up dying.

never anyone from in town bc we all know better!! i was literally just reading a man was "killed" this weekend. "man was killed after apparent cliff dive" when you take that leap over the falls your life is in no one elses hands BUT YOURS,what amazes me is ppl fail to see that, its like playing russian roulette, you KNOW theres the possiblity you arnt coming back from this, yet these ppl do it anyways. I am Canjoharie born and raised, ive swam wintergreen park for as long as i can remember (when it was CLEAN and not over run by amsterdam and all of its garbage!!) and now i refuse to take my son there bc i know that there will be irresponsible ppl there. not only ppl acting recklessly but also last year alone on floral ave right by our towns namesake, the boiling pot i found a bag of weed while my son was swimming. later that week i hiked past the dam and toward the falls only to find a jagged broken crackpipe shoved between two rocks, diapers everywhere, foil and food containers, dog shit, used nasty bloody bandaids... i notice alot of the youth in this area having community service, well to mayor avery... do the community a service and have those kids clean floral ave and wintergreen, not only for the land and water but for the health and safty of our children and young ppl who have no where else to go on a hot summer day. now to get down there you have to fight thru a crowd of amsterdams finest and screaming babies and shitty diapers just to hike far enough to get space to set yourself up. trying to swim and keep and eye on your bags bc the sheer volume of ppl on a hot day is mind boggling. i could go on forever about this, whats next? dirty needles between rocks and little bare feet, put that into your mind. thats why im keeping my kid far away from that scumhole this year.

I grew up in Canjo myself... Ive JUMPED off the falls more times than I can even begin to remember... For the thrill of it of course! The slide and the ledges off the side are fun as well. The difference between myself and friends from Canjo/Fort Plain is that those who have been going there for some time know exactly where to jump. These out of towners dont know better so they end up hitting the ledges under the water which seriously will mess you up and better yet, kill you! No matter what Canjo does to prevent people from jumping, fact is people will be people. Temptation is a bi*ch. So how about this.... Knowing damn well people are still going to jump... Post signs with enter at your own risk.. Hire a dive team no go into the water and mark out the ledges and then post them on a billboard... A big X placed for the spots to jump... If you slip and fall... Well.. That's why its enter at your own risk. Oh, and the canjo FD isnt that bad... They just need to get over there big heads thinking their hero's and deserve the respect of a God. Canjo PD on the other hand... WOW... Canjo would be a good place to live if it wasnt for them! Pulling people over because they were headed across the bridge for a Stewarts ice cream!

Yeah, I'm sure you got stopped for heading across the bridge for a stewarts ice cream. Which section of law does that come under? Hey at least they weren't up at the park arresting jumpers! Why don't all of you wake up. They are doing their job. If you don't like it start with the law makers in Albany.

every year people get killed or hurt there. then the fire dept. and ambulance have to come and risk there life for these idiots. the girlfrom liitle falls that got killed her family had or still has a lawsuit against the village she was at fault not the village they have signs and fencing and still jumped. just stay the hell away go to the great escape if u want something to do.
If the rescue force is afraid to do their jobs that they volunteered for, then do away with funding for a rescue dept. Stop taking away human liberty and let people swim if they desire...

...we can not walk through the trees to admire flora and fauna "POSTED" "KEEP OUT"!...we can not enjoy the cool waters of our local streams because THEY say it is a danger...keep taking our liberties away...keep pushing us out of this little town. I moved back here for a nice place to raise my children...soon I will move away from the horrid, self-righteous, and ill informed political base that is ruining Canajoharie..

So Dude, when your crying ass is hurt at the falls you don't need anyone to come save you correct? Please let us all know who you are so we don't waste our time since you have all the answers.

Thanks for showing who you are by jumping in with profanity. You can't have it both ways. Robbing us of a pleasure or having a rescue force. Your complaint is that of ignorance. It is like complaining when a soldier is killed. That was their job, that's what they volunteered for. I don't think the falls are safe, of course not. But the thrust of my argument is that they are shutting down all the summer spots on the creek. What else shall they forbid us from next? My name is Brian Swartz, I am 40 and would welcome you to a debate on social theory and the over-control of authority any day. Just leave your hatred and profanity behind...and if you are a rescue personnel; I think you made the wrong choice as your compassion is lacking by your blatant statement. Thank you for your time.

Just before you jump back in spitting flames of profanity and hate; I used to jump from the falls. Meaning past tense. Like in the late 80s when I was young. I'm more upset because all the other swimming holes along the creek are being shut down because of this. How much babysitting is too much? The planet is critically over populated to the point that we are destroying ourselves; but we can't even take the risk of death because other groups of humans dictate what is our measured safety. Do you understand the philosophy I am revealing here? I for one enjoy nature and will not let the controlling elite dictate the where, what or when of my enjoyment. What about the fatalities from amusement parks? Shall we outlaw that next? What about the fatalities from toaster accidents? Shall we outlaw that as well?

Sadly some people can't understand. They are either brainwashed by authority or mentally weak and unable to understand what natural human liberty is. They can argue only with hatred, profanity, and ignorance. They follow their leaders blindly until all of their freedoms are taken and then it is too late.

Instead of hiding behind a "disagree" tag...why not discuss the issue. What don't you agree with and what information base give cause for your feelings? Like I said before; people are either ignorant (of the issue, so many people don't even know what ignorant means) or they are not educated to the history of human sociology. Alas, I weep for thee...

I am curious: I no longer live in New York State, but I grew up locally and swam in Canajoharie Creek, jumping from the Falls and enjoying Wintergreen Park back in the 70s and early 80s. I loved that place. Of course, that was before Amsterdam was overrun with spooks and wetbacks collecting free government money, cell phones and cars, and driving wherever the heck they wanted to ruin the planet for decent honest taxpaying citizens. Now I read that the Amsterdamned have taken over in Wintergreen Park, leaving messy diapers, crack pipes, dog doo and everything else imaginable, as well as managing to kill themselves on the Falls once in a while (boo hoo). So the Canajoharie Town Council has placed "No Trespassing" signs in Spanglish and people are ignoring them. Exactly when did it become illegal to swim in the creek, by the way? That makes me sad because as I said I loved that place and have many fond memories of swimming there and jumping from the Falls. Of course, on the other hand they need to do something to keep the Amsterscum out of there; simply making it illegal to swim isn't going to do it, however. Can anyone tell me when it became verboten to swim in the creek?
