It's not canjo. It's the state providing ppl in gen that don't work. Im now single lost my job went to ss they provided everything. I now have 2 jobs but minimum wage but I make 90$ too much per month they won't help me. It's like I bust my butt get very little I was better off not working. Not that I prefer it. Just pisses me off in those 3 mths I had a roof over my head. But cause I'm back to work frig my family n take care of those that don't work!
The state makes public assistance a better choice than busting your butt at 2 minimum wage jobs. I commend you for working 2 jobs which I am guessing arent the most enjoyable jobs out there, and not accepting the easier option of a free handout. On the other hand who can blame people who opt to sit home and have everything paid for? The state needs to scale back on the freebies and not make public assistance something even remotely enticing.

i also would like to know the negative issues regarding the school. for a fact i know the school moved my son to a class that took a year and a half to complete instead of the normal year. AND DID NOT TELL ME!! any negagive issues should be public knowlege and also the solutions

i have a different view, the state should help those with jobs and make working the better choice and those without jobs should do community service equvilent to full time work at min wage to earn their state money. i also belive kids (twelve and up) of families receiving state aide should also pitch in with some service.

whoo r u- Didn't your son tell you about this class? How long did you go before you found out
about this change? Hopefully not a year and a half.
Parents need to ask their children about what's
going on in school every day! Also, they need to
check their child's assignments and homework.
Hopefully, you do this.

it was only about a week until my son told me about the change and i was able to put him back into the main stream class. i also hired someone to tutor(not sure how thats spelled right now and no time to look it up). so that brings me to two problems i know of with the system. one- i was not informed of the change. two- the high school has no peer to peer help; teachers are not allowed to stay after school to help individuals (anyway thats what i was told). i had to pay $20 dollars an hour for help. HE PASSED.

whoo r u- Way to be proactive; I'm glad your
son passed. Also, agree with you, you should
have been informed of the change. Finally, you
were not told the truth; teachers are allowed
to stay after school to help individuals who
need help. You might have to provide trans-
portation home if the student normally rides
the bus.P.S. Remember the teachers are working for you; you pay the tax dollars.

I completely agree with old timers views on everything that he has said.
Someone was talking about jobs and Obama, the state, etc. I have had it with the state. I am sick and tired of welfare. How about... the state hold people accountable. What is the deal w/generation after generation being on welfare? I thought it was supposed to be temporary. We are cutting teachers and programs yet continue to enable. By the way, let's make those state exams harder, cut programs, increase class size, cut funding, go way too fast promoting new educational standards so textbks are not aligned to the new standards and schools can't keep up, give vague, poor info to teachers, and tell the country how poorly the U.S. is doing compared to other countries in regard to education! Keep in mind those other countries, like China, only educate their elite. Oh, and NY- it is doing horrible in regards to education... Hmmm...could it be bec NY City has been thrown in there? I could go on and on. Guess what? State exams scores are going to be even lower in 2013 (unless there is a big curve or working of #'s). I wonder if the state will explain to the public that it is bec they increased the difficulty level by 1/2 yr or more in some grades. There are huge gaps that teachers are expected to cover too. What you see on the news is is also reflected in the classroom- meaning disfunctional (I am very worried abt public education.). There are also other reasons that I just can't go into...we all know how the families in these poorer areas really value education- not (for many of them at least).
Thoroughly disgusted...

<quoted text>
Protect us from what? who? O bomb ya has created an environment where the young men of todays generation have little choice but to go to the armed forces if they want a job ...

Obama has been president for less than four years; Bush, who started the two on-going wars {and neglected to pay for them while at the same time he deregulated Wall Street and simultaneously eliminated most taxes on the very wealthy -- the major sources of our current economic disaster} had the previous eight. So who's to blame for the choices young men and women have for finding work? Not Obama.

Wake up. Education is a key to everyone's future. Yes, the teachers and board members here in Canajoharie are imperfect and biased -- but guess what, parents can't let that fact (which has been the case for many generations, in many places) be an excuse to allow their kids to drift through school with an attitude and later bitch about their kids not being able to find work.

Finding work requires ability, and sometimes requires the ability to travel to find it. This area was fortunate to have work available to so many for so long. These problems have been developing for a long, long time and are the case in many, many regions.

Get your kids to do their homework, don't give them excuses not to succeed. I'm not a teacher, and I wasn't from around here, and the schools didn't like me or my family. But now the kids are alright, and working, independent, and happy to come home for a visit. What more do you want?
